Bengaluru Urban is home to Bengaluru, the capital and largest city of Karnataka. Known as the Garden City of India, the city is famous for green landmarks like Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Cubbon Park. But Bengaluru is not just a city of gardens — it is also widely recognized as the Silicon Valley of India and the Startup Capital of India, making it a major centre of IT, innovation, education and services.

Historically, Bengaluru was founded by Nadaprabhu Kempegowda I in 1537 CE, who built the historic Bengaluru Mud Fort. The district also witnessed the Siege of Bangalore in 1791 during the Third Anglo-Mysore War, when the British captured Bangalore Fort from the forces of Tipu Sultan.

Geographically, Bengaluru Urban lies in southern Karnataka and shares its southern boundary with Tamil Nadu, giving it important inter-state significance. Despite rapid urbanisation, the district is also home to Bannerghatta National Park and India’s First Butterfly Park, making it an important example of urban biodiversity.

Culturally, Bengaluru Urban reflects both tradition and modernity. Festivals like Bengaluru Karaga, Kadalekai Parishe, Ugadi, Dasara, Deepavali and Ganesh Chaturthi show the district’s rich cultural and cosmopolitan identity. Folk forms like Dollu Kunitha and Garudi Gombe keep Karnataka’s cultural rhythm alive in the heart of a modern metropolis.
