Part 3 of our resurrection series turns to the final Gospel and perhaps the most theologically developed portrait of Jesus in the New Testament.

By the time we reach John's Gospel, Jesus is no longer simply an apocalyptic prophet, Jewish Messiah, or risen servant of God. He is the eternal Word who existed before creation, participated in the creation of the universe, descended from heaven, and openly identifies himself with the divine. John's Jesus doesn't gradually become exalted after his death—he arrives on the scene already possessing a cosmic identity.

How does this theological evolution shape John's resurrection account?

In this episode, we examine the striking differences between John and the earlier Gospels. The empty tomb story grows more detailed. The appearances of Jesus become more dramatic. Thomas is invited to touch Jesus' wounds. The beloved disciple appears as a privileged witness. The resurrection is no longer simply evidence that God vindicated Jesus; it becomes the culmination of a story in which the divine Logos returns to the glory he possessed before the world existed.

We explore how John's resurrection narrative reflects the highest Christology in the New Testament and ask whether it represents historical memory, theological development, or both. What happens when we read the resurrection stories chronologically—from Paul, to Mark, Matthew, and Luke, and finally to John?
