Part 2 of our series on the resurrection moves from Paul—the earliest Christian writer—to the stories found in the Gospels themselves.

What do Mark, Matthew, and Luke actually say about the resurrection, and how consistent are their accounts? As we examine the Gospel narratives side by side, we encounter a surprising reality: the details don't always line up. Who arrived at the tomb? How many visitors were there? Was the stone already moved? Did the women tell anyone what they saw? Where were the disciples instructed to go, and where did they ultimately encounter the risen Jesus?

We also explore a broader question: how do stories change as they are retold? Beginning with Mark's abrupt and mysterious ending, we trace how later Gospel writers appear to expand, modify, and develop the resurrection tradition. Why does each account seem to become more detailed, more dramatic, and more theologically explicit than the one before it?

Rather than asking what Christians believe happened, this episode asks what the texts themselves reveal. By comparing the resurrection narratives of Mark, Matthew, and Luke, we investigate the challenges, contradictions, and developments that have led many scholars to question whether the Gospels preserve eyewitness history, evolving tradition, or some combination of both.

Join us as we examine the resurrection stories through the lens of historical criticism, literary analysis, and the chronology of the New Testament.
