This week, Debi is joined by William Anthony Hay, Associate Director for Public Programs and Professor from the School of Economic Thought at Leadership at Arizona State University.
Will and Debi discuss Democratic Socialism. Professor Hay explains the difference between Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism. He also explains the difference between Democratic Socialism that we see in the US and Social Democracy that is popular in Europe.
They discuss the history of socialism, why it originally gained popularity in the 19th century and why we've seen a resurgence in its popularity in the last decade. There are real world problems facing young adults today that cannot be ignored. Democratic Socialism offers clear but false promises to make their world more equitable. Real world socialism increases the divide between rich and poor, rewards corruption and makes important commodities more scarce or more expensive.
