  • The World Cup Rewritten: Week One
    2026/06/16

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is five days in, and it's already defying expectations in almost every direction.

The most expanded World Cup in history — 48 teams, 12 groups, 72 group-stage games — is generating as much drama off the ball as on it. This episode breaks down the biggest storylines shaping the tournament's opening week.

South America entered with all the pride of football's most decorated continent. But Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco, Ecuador lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast, and Paraguay were dismantled 4-1 by the United States — leaving the region without a single win from its opening matches. For a group of nations that has produced the majority of World Cup champions, the reckoning is real.

African sides, meanwhile, have been one of the early stories of the tournament. Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador, Morocco held Brazil, and Cape Verde — a nation of half a million people — drew with Spain. Africa's ten-team presence is making itself felt.

The co-hosts have arrived in style. The United States put on a dominant 4-1 performance against Paraguay, with Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic leading the charge. Mexico opened the tournament at the Estadio Azteca with a 2-0 win over South Africa, sending a message that the home nations mean business.

Then there's the refereeing conversation. FIFA launched an investigation after a VAR official was caught on live television making a hand gesture linked to white supremacist groups during Germany's match against Curaçao — a controversy that anti-discrimination groups say has no place at a global sporting event. On the technology side, FIFA promised this would be the most AI-driven, precision-officiated World Cup ever — but history suggests controversy never fully disappears, and the more accurate the tools become, the louder the reaction when mistakes still happen.

With Argentina yet to play, big matches in Groups I, J, K, and L just kicking off, and the race for third-place spots already tightening, the group stage has a long way to run. We dig into what to watch next — and whether the old football powers can find their footing before it's too late.

  • So Close, Yet So Far — Arsenal's Champions League Heartbreak and the Road Ahead
    2026/06/09

Arsenal's bid to win the Champions League for the first time in their 140-year history ended in heartbreak on Saturday evening in Budapest. Paris Saint-Germain were crowned UEFA Champions League 2026 champions after defeating Arsenal 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time. Arsenal struck first through Kai Havertz in just the fifth minute — the German again delivering on the grandest stage. But Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won a penalty on the hour mark, and Ousmane Dembélé stepped up to send David Raya the wrong way and bring PSG back to life. The match couldn't be separated in extra time, and the cruelty of penalties would once again define Arsenal's European fate. Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both missed from the spot as PSG recorded a 4-3 shootout victory. Gabriel Magalhães missed Arsenal's fifth and final penalty to keep the cup in Parisian hands for another year. It was a gut-wrenching conclusion for a team that had done so much right. Arsenal, who only conceded six goals in 14 matches on their way to the final, quickly retreated into a low block after taking the lead — a tactical decision that will be debated all summer. Declan Rice and Arteta — furious with a penalty verdict dismissed by referee Daniel Siebert in extra time — were both booked for protesting. The margins, as ever, were impossibly fine. OlympicsESPN Yet context matters. The Gunners had already ended their 22-year wait for an English top-flight title earlier this season, and arrived in Budapest as newly crowned Premier League champions. The domestic achievement is enormous — but in the cold light of a Budapest morning, it will feel like only partial consolation. Where Do Arsenal Go From Here? Despite the heartbreak, the club's foundations have never been stronger. Arsenal have secured UEFA prize money totalling £122m from their run to the final, putting them in a strong financial position heading into the summer window. Arteta's project is not in crisis — it's at an inflection point. Incoming Transfers The squad needs sharpening rather than rebuilding. Arsenal intend to strengthen in attack, in central midfield, and at full-back. In attack, the Gunners are considering PSG's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Newcastle's Anthony Gordon for the left wing position — the very man who tormented them on Saturday would be a statement signing. Morgan Rogers, who has been excellent for Aston Villa over the past 18 months, is seen as a more realistic and cost-effective alternative — a creator with an eye for goal who fits Arteta's profile perfectly. A striker also remains a pressing concern. Arsenal are ready to spend big on two new attackers this summer, and the club's long-standing interest in elite forwards is well documented. At the back, Piero Hincapie will complete his permanent move from Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the 2026/27 season — a deal that had been in the pipeline for some time and provides solidity on the left side of defence. Outgoing Transfers Sales will be needed to balance the books. Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ben White are all likely to be able to leave if the right offers come in. Jakub Kiwior is seemingly certain to depart, with loan club Porto having activated their clause to sign him for £19m. The Bigger Picture Losing a Champions League final on penalties is as cruel as football gets — but Arsenal's trajectory under Arteta remains upward. They are Premier League champions, they have financial firepower, and they have shown they can compete with the very best in Europe over a full campaign. The ghost of the nearly-men tag hasn't been fully exorcised, but it's fading. The question next season is whether Arteta can plug the gaps, maintain the hunger of champions, and go one step further in Europe. Based on everything they've shown, the answer should be yes.

  • ARSENAL ON THE BRINK OF HISTORY 🏆 Marie-Louise Eta Makes History & FIFA's World Cup CHAOS 😤
    2026/06/02

Dem boys are BACK and this week's episode has EVERYTHING — a Premier League title race on the edge of its seat, a historic moment for women in football, and FIFA dropping the ball before the World Cup has even kicked off. Strap in 🔥

🔴 ARSENAL — TWO GAMES FROM GLORY

Arsenal are back in control of their title hopes, sitting five points clear of Manchester City with just two games left in their season. Leandro Trossard's late winner at West Ham kept the Gunners on the brink of their first league title in 22 years — but it wasn't without drama. A controversial VAR check ruled out Callum Wilson's stoppage-time equaliser for a foul on David Raya, sparking huge debate. All that now stands between Arsenal and the title is a home game against already-relegated Burnley and a trip to Crystal Palace, who have one eye on their Conference League final three days later. Is it finally coming home to North London after 22 years? Or will Arteta find a way to bottle it? The boys give their verdict

    👩 MARIE-LOUISE ETA — A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR FOOTBALL

This is one for the history books and the dem boys are giving it the respect it deserves. Union Berlin's Marie-Louise Eta became the first female head coach to win a game in European football's top five men's leagues, overseeing a stunning 3-1 victory against Mainz in the German Bundesliga. Eta punched the air and joined her players to applaud Union's fans as she celebrated her first win in the fourth game of her five-game tenure as interim coach. Eta was appointed back in April after the dismissal of Steffen Baumgart and had previously won the UEFA Women's Champions League with Turbine Potsdam in 2010. A landmark moment — but the appointment unleashed an all-too-familiar torrent of hate, sexism and misogyny on social media. We celebrate the achievement AND call out the nonsense. 💪

😤 FIFA'S WORLD CUP PROMISES — WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?

With just weeks to go until the tournament kicks off, FIFA is facing serious questions about whether their grand promises are going to be kept. Hotels remain under-booked, tickets unsold, and travelers unconvinced — leaving the world's most-watched sporting event at risk of falling short of its most ambitious expectations. FIFA's own president Gianni Infantino claimed "every match is sold out" back in February — a claim the organisation walked back only days later. The North American bid initially promised tickets available for as little as $21 — the cheapest ticket is now priced at $60, with most costing at least $200 for matches involving higher-ranked teams. Despite more than 5 million tickets sold, this demand has not yet translated into strong hotel bookings, with some Kansas City hotels running below what a typical June or July would bring. And then there's the bigger picture — over 120 groups have issued warnings to prospective attendees, citing visa processing concerns, rising travel costs, and geopolitical uncertainty as major deterrents. FIFA promised the world. Are they delivering? The boys are NOT holding back 👊

All that and more in today's episode. If you're not subscribed yet — what are you doing?! 🎙️🔥

  • Argentina's World Cup Chances Preview w/ Aldana_arg
    2026/05/11

The dem boys are bringing in a special guest this week and we couldn't be more excited — die-hard Albiceleste fan Aldana_arg is in the building and we are going DEEP on Argentina's chances of doing the unthinkable — defending the World Cup title this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico! 🌎⚽

Only two nations in history have ever defended the World Cup crown — Italy in the 1930s and Brazil in the 1960s — so can Scaloni's Argentina make history and become just the third? Aldana thinks so. The boys aren't so sure. Let the debate begin 👇

🐐 The Messi Question — Messi is back in the squad but is yet to fully confirm his participation in the summer's tournament. At 38 years old, Scaloni will need to be clever in how he manages the legend's minutes. Is this truly his swansong? And how dependent is this Argentina side on one man?

📋 The Squad Breakdown — The experienced core of Emi Martinez, Romero, Lisandro Martinez, De Paul, Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez forms the backbone of this squad and most of them have been here before and won it. But are there any weak links? Aldana gives her honest verdict position by position 🧐

The Youth Revolution — Nico Paz & Mastantuono — This is where it gets EXCITING. Como's breakout star Nico Paz and Real Madrid's Franco Mastantuono have both been called into the squad alongside Claudio Echeverri of Manchester City as Scaloni looks to blend youth with experience. With major stars like Lautaro Martinez having been sidelined with injury, this is the perfect time for the younger generation to throw some of the spotlight on themselves. Are Paz and Mastantuono ready for the biggest stage in football? Aldana is CONVINCED. The boys give their take 👀

🌍 The Group Stage — Group J — Argentina find themselves in Group J facing Algeria, Austria and Jordan — a manageable draw on paper for the world champions. They open their campaign on June 16th against Algeria in Kansas City, before facing Austria on June 22nd and Jordan on June 27th — both in Dallas. Should be smooth sailing but don't forget — Saudi Arabia shocked this exact Argentina squad in Qatar 2022. No game is a gimme at a World Cup. Can they afford to rotate? And do they use the group stage to bed in Nico Paz and Mastantuono?

🏆 How Far Can They Go? — If Argentina top Group J they play the Round of 16 in Miami — and the potential knockout path could set up some MASSIVE clashes with the likes of Spain, France and Brazil lurking on the other side of the bracket. Aldana says final. The boys give their predictions. Who do YOU think lifts the trophy in New Jersey on July 19th? 🏟️

This episode is an absolute must-listen for any football fan. Don't miss it 🎙️🔥

  • Did Manchester City Bottle It in the Premier League Title Race!?
    2026/05/05

🚨 Dem Boys Watch Footy | Man City BOTTLE IT 😤 City fought back from 3-1 down to snatch a 3-3 draw at Everton, with Doku's last-gasp equaliser in the 97th minute rescuing a point — but is a point enough? The draw hands the title momentum back to Arsenal with the Gunners now firmly in the driving seat. Doku had given City the lead before the break, but a dreadful second half saw Thierno Barry score twice and Jake O'Brien put Everton in front 3-1. City fans will be FUMING. Is this the moment the title race was decided? 😤 Manchester United secured Champions League qualification in style with a dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford. Cunha and Sesko fired United into a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes, Liverpool fought back through Szoboszlai and Gakpo to level, before Kobbie Mainoo settled it with a wonderful first-time finish in front of the Stretford End. Arsenal host Atletico Madrid tonight with the tie level after a 1-1 draw in the first leg — Arsenal remain the only unbeaten team in this season's Champions League but Atletico have a perfect record in UCL semi-finals against English clubs. • City turn off the Lights on Arsenal's title charge!?
    2026/04/21

On today's episode, we break down a match that told you everything you need to know about where Arsenal are right now. City dominated possession, 59–41. Arsenal managed just 8 shots to City's 12, with only 2 on target. Haaland led the line. Rodri bossed the midfield. Donnarumma barely had to work. Was this a tactical failure from Arteta? A squad depth problem? Or are City just still — frustratingly — the better side when it matters? We're getting into all of it. The lineup choices, the half-time sub, the yellow cards piling up, and what this result means for Arsenal's top-four push with four games left. This one hurt. Let's talk about it. . . #DemBoysWatchFooty #Arsenal #ManCity #Wembley #Guardiola #Arteta #Gunners #PremierLeague #Football #Podcast #ArsenalBottledIt #NewEpisode
