  • Unpacking Cole Allen's Manifesto: The Psychology of Ideology
    2026/05/01

In this episode, we delve into Cole Allen's manifesto, exploring the psychological underpinnings of his actions and the concept of Identity Fusion (Swann). We analyze the manifesto line by line — examining the implications of radicalization, the devoted actor mindset, and the cognitive patterns that drive individuals toward extreme beliefs — with particular attention to the cognitive environment and the distinction between individual belief and group identity. We also explore the psychological and sociopolitical factors that push individuals toward radicalization and political violence: the moral justifications people construct for their actions, the role of community and identity in shaping those beliefs, and the complex interplay between personal grievances and broader political narratives. We examine the dangers of collective narcissism, the selective nature of empathy, and what it means to view political figures as enemies — raising critical questions about what motivates radical action and what societal conditions enable it.
