Startup Playbook | Day 18/100
Today's lesson completely changed how I think about MVPs.
I used to think an MVP meant building a simple product.
Instead, I learned that an MVP is simply the fastest experiment that answers your biggest uncertainty.
There isn't one MVP.
There are several.
✔ Landing Page MVP → Validate demand.
✔ Prototype MVP → Test usability.
✔ Concierge MVP → Test service delivery manually.
✔ Wizard of Oz MVP → Simulate automation before building automation.
The interesting part?
Some of today's biggest companies started exactly this way.
Dropbox validated demand with a landing page.
Zappos manually fulfilled shoe orders.
Early startups focused on learning before scaling.
The biggest takeaway for me:
Choose the MVP based on your riskiest assumption—not based on what seems exciting to build.
Learning is the product before the product.
