Dark Enough is a podcast by the Chennai Astronomy Club about astronomy, stargazing, space science, and the night sky, from the point of view of curious people in Chennai. We talk about what you can actually see from the city, how to understand the sky, common astronomy myths, telescopes, observing tips, space missions, and the stories behind the universe. The show is beginner-friendly, practical, and grounded in the simple idea that you do not need perfect skies to start looking up. Hosted by Chennai Astronomy Club, a volunteer-run amateur astronomy community active since 2013.Chennai Astronomy Club 天文学 天文学・宇宙科学 科学

Binoculars are often overlooked in astronomy, but they can be some of the most rewarding instruments for exploring the night sky. In this episode of Dark Enough, we talk to Dr. Manikandan from the Chennai Astronomy Club about what makes binoculars so useful for astronomy, what you can see with them, how to choose the right pair, and why you don't always need a telescope to start exploring the universe.

  • Debunking Common Astronomy Myths
    2026/07/29

Does the Sun really look yellow? Will a telescope show you colourful galaxies? And how dark does the sky actually need to be for stargazing?

In the first episode of Dark Enough, Siva, Aashika and Vijay from the Chennai Astronomy Club discuss some of the most common misconceptions about astronomy. We talk about what objects really look like through a telescope, why cameras capture more colour than our eyes, how the atmosphere changes the appearance of the Sun, and why astronomy does not require perfect skies.

We also discuss the patience involved in observing the night sky and why learning to notice faint details can be more rewarding than chasing spectacular views.

    In this episode:

    • Why the Sun is actually white, although it often appears yellow• What galaxies and nebulae really look like through a telescope• Why astrophotographs look different from visual observations• How our eyes work in low-light conditions• Why you should never observe the Sun without a proper solar filter• What we mean by a sky being “dark enough”
