このコンテンツについて

My name is Dan and I live in a tent, under the redwoods, on about four acres of land. I’m trying to live sustainably. Increasingly… I find that my goal may be impossible to attain. In this series, I discuss my endeavors to show myself, to show up for myself, to act as a role model for myself, and to forgive myself when I miss the target. I cover topics and values such as honesty, perspective, land stewardship, science, compassion, breathing, and how I accept the world as it is. • Another perspective (The universe is made of everything and nothing)
    2025/09/15

In this episode, I listen to the sounds of nature, including several vehicles… I ponder the difference between “work” and “play”… I mention turkeys, swimming holes, Sartre, and choosing when to choose. I also tell a short story titled, “The universe is made of everything, and nothing.” With special guest appearance of my dog, Sprocket.

Episode 8. Choosing when to choose

In this episode, I spend time listening to my feelings and the sounds of nature… I talk about the Netflix show, The Good Place, and Michael Schur’s book: How to be perfect… I tell a story of my grandmother surviving three concentrations camps and I connect these struggles to Jean Paul Sartre’s lecture, Existentialism is a Humanism, as well as a Rush song about choosing not to choose still being a choice. Edit: My paternal grandmother was held in three concentrations camps. She was transferred from the Ghetto in Lodz to Auschwitz, and then to Bergen-Belsen, and finally rescued from Salzwedel.

Over this past month I struggled with a broken microphone and other issues that delayed my ability to publish new episodes. In this episode, I tell stories about my vehicle, how I moved giant logs by hand, the first time I brought my children to this land, helping and asking for help, redwood trees and their two different pine cones, living in a canvas tent, Henry David Thoreau’s cabin, PG&E, and some very special music by Tami Gosnell. Please join my discussions on YouTube, Spotify and Instagram. Peace 😌
