 This is a short daily podcast, where we go through an exegesis of the gospel reading from the current day's Mass. The Catholic Church teaches that in order to understand the Scriptures, we must start with the literal sense - in other words, how the original hearers of the text would have understood it. That is our aim in this podcast - to help understand what the gospel writers (and more importantly, Jesus) were intending to communicate in today's reading, as well as providing links to the Catechism.     Matthew 10: 1-7 - 'Go to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.'


    Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs:

    - 543 (In 'The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God') - Everyone is called to enter the kingdom. First announced to the children of Israel, this messianic kingdom is intended to accept men of all nations. To enter it, one must first accept Jesus' word: The word of the Lord is compared to a seed which is sown in a field; those who hear it with faith and are numbered among the little flock of Christ have truly received the kingdom. Then, by its own power, the seed sprouts and grows until the harvest.

    - 2611 (In 'Jesus teaches us how to pray') - The prayer of faith consists not only in saying “Lord, Lord,” but in disposing the heart to do the will of the Father. Jesus calls his disciples to bring into their prayer this concern for cooperating with the divine plan.
