    2025/04/30
This week, a park icon gets an update, a rare character encounter lands at Pixar Place Hotel, we talk about Earth Day at the resort, the 70th guided tour details are released and booking is open for it, a new checkout option for Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, we finish out conversation with Michael, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: An iconic part of Disneyland history – and Disney in general will be getting refurbished soon. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room closed this week to perform routine maintenance on the lighting, sound, and show. The mighty tree of Tangaroa will be recreated from a high resolution digital scan. The current Tangaroa is no longer able to be repaired, having been there since the attraction opening in 1963. The attraction will reopen later this summer. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/tangaroa-tree-be-rebuilt-during-upcoming-refurbishment-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room-disneyland/ https://www.micechat.com/146135-rolly-crump-impostor-syndrome-part-2/ Tour dates are open for the new guided tour coming to Disneyland for the 70th anniversary. A Story of Celebration: 70th Anniversary Guided Tour is a 2-hour guided walking tour, which includes a ride aboard the Mark Twain, Disneyland Railroad, a Lightning Lane for a select attraction, reserved viewing for Paint the Night, which includes popcorn, and a tour keepsake. The price is $120 per guest. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and are highly recommended. Check out the link in the show notes to reserve your tour! – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ https://disneyland.disney.go.com/en-ca/events-tours/disneyland/story-of-celebration-tour/ A character not often seen at the resorts made a visit for Earth Day. WALL-E was in the lobby of the Pixar Place Hotel roaming around and greeting guests. He also opened up his storage compartment to share the plant, potted in the boot, just like in the movie! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/dear-disney-we-are-begging-for-this-rare-character-meet-and-greet-to-become-permanent/ As we reported on previously, some permits have been filed with the Anaheim Planning and Building Department in relation to Porto’s coming to Downtown Disney. We talked about removing the two ticket booths from the esplanade, but did not mention the permit to tear down the existing building – currently home to Earl of Sandwich. No timeline on the permits, but this is forward progress. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Once again, Disneyland Cast Members were invited to create upcycled art projects to be shown off to guests for Earth Month. This time, the creations, ranging from a Haunted Mansion created from cardboard pizza boxes, to Maleficent in dragon form made from plastic cutlery. The display is under the Silly Symphony Swings for guests to enjoy. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ This week, the Disney Parks Blog recognized a cast member who brings joy to countless (or not so countless) guests. Antonio has been working at the Disneyland Resort for 18 years, and has received over 735 cast compliments from guests. Antonio works at Pixar Pier attractions and before Disneyland, worked for nearly 10 years in hospitality in Dubai and Qatar. Antonio’s rise to fame is in part due to his exuberant energy and fun dance moves for guests! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/dancing-disneyland-resort-cast-member-inspires-happiness/ Last week, we talked about recycling your food scraps at Disneyland. Since then, little droids have appeared on top of food scraps containers to remind guests that only food scraps should be deposited in the bin they are standing on. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ A new way to checkout at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta has arrived. A kiosk for guest self-checkout has been installed. The system scans the items on the tray, adds it up, and asks for payment. Currently, Magic Key discounts must involve a cast member, and payment can only be made with credit or debit card. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ Weeklyteers who may be in the parks starting May 9th should know that it is Grad Nite season at the resort again, and park hours may be impacted. This year, there is some new, more generic graduation merchandise available for purchase. – https://www.micechat.com/413960-disneyland-news-portos-permits-construction-walls-star-wars/ SnackChat: New food items coming to the resort – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/24/disney-just-announced-23-new-treats-are-coming-next-week/#more-...

  • DLW 385: From Out of the Past with Michael Holland
    2025/04/23
This week, more choices in Galaxy’s Edge, a new way to be Earth conscience, an interesting development in Toon Town, a new Starbucks tumbler surprise, ticket and hotel deals, we talk to Michael Holland from the “From Out of the Past Podcast,” and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: Star Wars Celebration Japan just wrapped up and there were some new details about changes coming to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Starting on May 22, 2026, guests will have more control over their experience piloting the Millennium Falcon. Crews will be in charge of the destination that they travel to. New locations like Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or Coruscant will be options. The engineers will also be able to communicate with Grogu. These additions will coincide with the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/the-mandalorian-grogu-and-new-crew-controls-coming-to-smugglers-run/ https://blogmickey.com/2025/04/new-locations-smugglers-run-mandalorian-update-2026/ April is Earth Month, and this year Disneyland is doing something unique. Guests are being encouraged to participate in the Food Scraps program. The program takes uneaten food and turns it into nutrient-rich feed for farm animals. Galactic Grill, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, Cafe Daisy, Pym Test Kitchen, Flo’s V8 Cafe, and Cozy Cone Motel are participating. Guests are given a green food scraps container to place leftover food into, which can then be emptied into a green food-only receptacle. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ An unexpected, but fun activity appeared in Toon Town this week. Signs for a missing churro have been posted around the land, with a phone number to call. When called, Donald Duck picks up and talks about his missing churro. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ Fans of the Disneyland Starbucks tumblers have a new variation. This tumbler comes with one of two mystery pins. The tumbler itself is brightly colored with graphics depicting Disneyland attractions like the Tiki Room, it’s a small world, Haunted Mansion, and more! – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ https://disneypinsblog.com/starbucks-tumbler-with-mystery-pin-pouch-at-disney-parks/?srsltid=AfmBOopOzc7lOklM6rS3y2mYUX5rGfb_HfVZ_C2MA-l8dLMuGyn_ghAh With the recent uncertainty from international travelers from outside the United States, Disney has created some hotel and theme park ticket deals. Currently, there is a SoCal Resident Ticket offer through May 15th, and a Disneyland Anniversary 4-day Ticket valid from May 16th through August 14th from $100 per day. – https://www.micechat.com/413577-disneyland-news-star-wars-updates-70th-anniversary-offers-guest-problems/ The fires at the beginning of the year in the Southern California area were tragic, and impacted so many. Disney committed $15 million to the effort back in January. Disney has added “Disney Field Days” where they go and bring carnivals with characters, games, activities, and more to locations impacted. Recently, two schools in Brentwood, Disney cast members and VoluntEARS put on these events – to over 900 students. Two people who lost special items in the fires got a version of them back. One eight-year-old lost her giant stuffed Tigger in the fire, Disney replaced it with one that had traveled around Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A teacher, who lost her Disney-themed classroom in the fire, including her collection of mouse ears, was presented with over 50 ears from Disney Parks, stores, and VoluntEARS. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/la-fire-relief-efforts-how-disney-helps-the-communities-we-call-home/ SnackChat: New Sweets – https://www.instagram.com/p/DIwawmMx3iH/?img_index=7 Discussion Topic: Michael Holland host of From Out of the Past Podcast https://www.instagram.com/fromoutofthepastpodcast/ https://linktr.ee/hollandimaginarium https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK7GRiUhhB8 https://www.youtube.com/@AlextheHistorian

    2025/04/16
This week, Disneyland 2025 Half Marathon details announced, the next After Dark Nite tickets are going on sale, a new option for the plush headbands, an iconic Disney Imagineer is being featured in an upcoming documentary, an update to the Jolly Holiday sign, we finish our talk with Amanda and Kevin from Where in the Park, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: We are still almost a year away from the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2026, but there are some new details that were released this week. The weekend will take place during the 70th anniversary celebration “Celebrate Happy” and will be called the “Celebrate Happy” Half Marathon Weekend. The dates are January 29th through February 1st, 2026. The 5k “Celebrate Joy” race will take place on January 30th, the 10k “Celebrate Imagination” race will take place January 31st, and the “Celebrate Togetherness” half-marathon will round out the weekend on February 1st. Racers who complete the 10k and half-marathon will get the “Celebrate Achievement” medal. Finally, there is the “Celebrate Laughter” race on January 31st for kids 9 and under. “Celebrate Smiles” will feature yoga in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle on January 29th. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/04/12/new-details-just-announced-for-2026-disneyland-half-marathon-weekend/ https://www.rundisney.com/events/disneyland/ The next Disneyland After Dark Nite tickets are about to go on sale! Pride Nite – in our opinion one of the best after hours events – tickets will go on sale April 16th for Magic Key Holders, and April 17th for general admission. This year, Pride Nite itself takes place on June 16th and 18th. – https://mickeyblog.com/2025/04/10/disneyland-after-dark-pride-nite-tickets-go-on-sale-soon/ Weeklyteers who aren’t a fan of a headband style create your own headwear now have an alternative! Guests can now create their own HAT instead! The hat is black with the D resort logo on the front, also in black. All the existing plushes that you can add to the headbands can be added to the hat as well. The hat itself is $14.99 and can be purchased at the Mad Hatter on Main Street, or at World of Disney in Downtown Disney. – https://mickeyblog.com/2025/04/13/get-a-new-create-your-own-hat-at-the-disneyland-resort/ One of our favorite Imagineers will be featured in an upcoming documentary about their life and legacy. “Bob Gurr: Living by Design” will premiere at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on April 26th to a red carpet arrival with celebrity guests, and a Q&A after with Bob himself! Doors open at 5:30pm and the film begins at 7pm. The event is scheduled to last 2 hours and 40 minutes, including the intermission and Q&A. Visit the link in the show notes to get tickets! – https://www.micechat.com/413124-bob-gurr-disney-legend-movie-premiere/ A small thing at Disneyland that we have been following is the sign at the Jolly Holiday on Main Street. When the location reopened recently from its refurbishment, there was a temporary sign covering the popcorn lights underneath. The temporary sign has been removed, and the decorative elements have returned, but the popcorn lights are still problematic. – https://www.micechat.com/413111-disneyland-news-crowds-construction-bob-gurr-star-wars-nite/ For the past 66 years, the Ernest S Marsh locomotive has taken guests around Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. What you may not know is that it is much older than that! For 100 years the locomotive has been in operation and Disneyland has commemorated this with green 100 year celebration flags on the front of the locomotive. – https://www.micechat.com/413111-disneyland-news-crowds-construction-bob-gurr-star-wars-nite/ There are some small things happening around the resort that we wanted to mention. “it’s a small world’s” return has been delayed until May 9th. A new permit for Porto’s includes the removal of two of the ticket booths in the esplanade to make room for the expanded location. Also, there was some testing on Lightning Lane removal from Pirates this week.
