Joshua Prieto is a Brisbane-based wildlife and social documentary photojournalist with a love of learning about the  world. His work and travels have given him the opportunity to witness and photograph many spectacular creatures, scenes and important cultural events.

He sees his task as a photographer and journalist as another means to inspire people to care for the people and places around them. ​

His technical and conceptual education comes from both a Diploma from TAFE Queensland and a Bachelor of Photography from Griffith University's Queensland College of Art.

He has produced work with international non-governmental organisations such as Wildlife Alliance and TPO in Cambodia, as well as with the Queensland Museum and Chinchilla Veterinary Services, and his work has been exhibited at the Queensland College of Art, Maud Street Gallery, publicly in Kathmandu, Nepal and Ipswich Community Gallery.

Joshua's images have been internationally published by organisations such the Guardian, SBS, Australian Photography, Deutsche Welle, Vox, ABC, BBC, Radio France, Hardie Grant, Griffith University, University of Queensland and Wildlife Australia magazine.

Peter Rowland chats to Max de Beer about his passion, and how a trip to Sfrica after finishing university changed his life forever.

In Australia, we have charities connecting food to people in need, but where do all the other good things go?
Alison Covington is the Founder and Managing Director of Good360 Australia. In 2012, Alison discovered Good360 had been operating in the USA for over 30 years and couldn’t believe we didn’t have this idea in Australia. At that time Good360 had donated over $7bn of goods to over 35,000 non profits through the generous donations of 3M, HP, Home Depot and many more business partners.
In January 2013, Good360 USA hosted Alison Covington and shared their 30+ years’ experience in product philanthropy and agreed to help establish Good360 Australia. By 2015 Good360 Australia was up and running.
Alison believes that we can create change by creating a simple solution –  a solution where businesses have the opportunity to donate their spare and excess goods to lift up Australians – whether it’s toys to a family violence shelter or note books for a school we are the matchmaker for good. Since 2015, Alison and her wonderful team have redistributed almost 22 million non-perishable items and have supported 2,887 not-for-profits and schools, as well as 31 causes. Alison's goal is to distribute $1 billion worth of pre-consumer goods to Australians who need it most by 2025.

I am a wildlife photographer, natural history writer, former columnist for Australian Geographic Magazine, conservationist, trainer, public speaker and meditator. 

When I was at school, I felt that my teachers, my careers advisor and the education system as a whole were pressuring me into deciding on a career path. I was constantly told to "Just Follow Your Passion" and this will guide me to my my career and make me happy. I knew I loved wildlife, photography, writing, history and travelling, but had no idea what career path to take that could encompass all of these areas. I was a 16 yr old, born in australia but raised in England, who had just migrated back to Australia. I was bewildered, confused and socially awkward. A life-long, fulfilling career that I could be passionate about was not even on my horizon. I was in survival mode!

Ultimately, I bombed out of university and hopped from job to job, just to earn enough money to survive and enjoy life. I had one constant though. Because of my uncertainty in deciding a career path at school, my careers advisor organised some work experience for me at the Australian Museum in Sydney. My manager there, Walter Boles, invited to return in a volunteer capacity during my school holidays, which I did. I ended up working there, on and off, for 22 years. 

While I was at the museum I was involved in research and fieldwork throughout Australasia, travelled, read numerous books on early scientists and explorers, including Darwin, Banks, Gould, Lewin, Latham and North, got images published in the museum's nature magazine, did book reviews, published research papers, met Sir David Attenborough and, ultimately, got to write my first book. I started to cultivate my passion for wildlife, photography, writing, history and travel. I also discovered that I had a passion for tea!

To date, I have published five scientific papers, authored and contributed to 15 books on Australian wildlife, have had my photographs displayed in galleries and cafes, and have travelled extensively.

I have had so many amazing opportunities come my way and have had the absolute pleasure of meeting and working with many wonderful people on my journey. Many of these people are driving positive changes at a community, regional and global level.

I put this podcast together to make others aware of the great work these people do and to (perhaps) inspire a new generation of people who give more back to the world than they take.

I hope that this podcast inspires many people to discover and cultivate their own passions.
