The letter entitled 2nd John carries a very personal tone as "the Elder" writes to a woman that he clearly knows quite well and thinks highly of. He is concerned with the potential influence of those who are opposed to the truth and love that defines a christian.

We are going to spend some time this month studying the shortest books of the New Testament - the four one-chapter letters of Philemon, 2 John, 3 John and Jude.

This week is all about Philemon; a short, personal letter, written by Paul to a dear friend of his named Philemon. The letter addresses what could be a sensitive topic between the two of them but Paul respects and trusts Philemon enough to be confident that it will be well-received.

The last three of these seven letters, found in Revelation 3, are written to churches that are all in very different places. Sardis might have looked the part from an outsider's perspective but it's reality was very different, Philadelphia may not have been the most impressive looking church but was persevering in an admirable way, and Laodicea was a church that needed to rediscover its passion and zeal!
