In this episode of Courageous Conversation Circles, Roxanne Hobbs chats to Ammaarah Zayna and Jess Leigh about how they use courageous conversations in their work and communities.
Ammaarah is a freelance writer, speaker and consultant. She trained as a gender-based violence advocate, with specialisms in supporting young people and those belonging to marginalised backgrounds. Ammaarah operates within an intersectional, decolonial and abolitionist framework that is integrated throughout all the services she provide. Ammaarah works with charities and organisations to create models of best practice with regards to gender-based violence. This includes policy work, creative input, training staff, and strategic planning for inclusive practice.
An award winning campaigner, Jess is a keynote speaker and facilitator for Sexual Harassment, aiming to ensure all people are able to understand, prevent and react to Public Sexual Harassment . She works with many different sectors from mental health to participation of young people in services. As a result of her expertise she is a Trainer Consultant at Young Minds as well as a lead campaigner for Our Streets Now, a campaign aiming to end Public Sexual Harassment through both cultural and legislative change. Jess uses her own experiences as a LGBTQ+ women and the medium of storytelling to be able to shape policy, lead workshops and has spoken on the likes of BBC News, Sky News, Houses of Parliament and TEDx.
