概要

ABOUT COMMON SENSE FOR AMERICA:
Common Sense For America (CSFA) unites history and facts to inspire non-partisan, common-sense solutions to America’s biggest challenges.

Founded on the principles of Common Sense (Thomas Paine, 1776) and a deep appreciation for history, Bruce Rutherford—political commentator and educator—analyzes U.S. history, national budgets, and global affairs, breaking them down into clear, transparent insights for everyday Americans. Paine’s Common Sense argued that concentrated political power—whether in a monarchy or an elite ruling class—undermines democracy. In that spirit, CSFA champions government accountability, transparency, and true representation of the people.

  • Are NYC Billionaires Packing Their Bags?
    2026/02/28

New York City just elected socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani—and before he even takes office on January 1st, billionaires are already threatening to leave. Governor Hochul is blocking his signature policies, and President Trump has threatened to cut $7.4 billion in federal funding.

In this episode, Bruce Rutherford predicts exactly what will happen to New York City under Mayor Mamdani's administration. He walks through the math behind the proposed rent freezes, analyzes why city-owned grocery stores are unlikely to reduce prices, and explains why the MTA can't afford free buses.

Rutherford argues that the top 1% of NYC earners—who pay 40-50% of all personal income taxes—will accelerate their exodus to Florida, Texas, and Tennessee, creating a doom loop: lower tax revenue leads to worse city services, which drives more residents to leave, further reducing revenue.
This isn't political rhetoric. Rutherford bases his predictions on economic fundamentals, historical precedent from NYC's 1970s crisis, and current population trends showing 546,000 residents already fled between 2020-2023.
Will Mamdani's policies make NYC more affordable—or trigger America's next urban crisis? Bruce makes his prediction.

Common Sense for America delivers non-partisan political analysis that follows the money, not the narrative.

    ABOUT COMMON SENSE FOR AMERICA:
Common Sense For America brings history and facts together to inspire non-partisan, common sense solutions to America's biggest challenges. Inspired by Common Sense a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine, 1776, Bruce Rutherford, political commentator and educator, dissects U.S. history, American finance, and global affairs, and shares insights in everyday language.

Thomas Paine's Common Sense argues that concentrated political power, whether in a monarchy or elite class, is unjust and undermines democracy. Like with Common Sense, we advocate for a government accountable to the people, emphasizing transparency, representation, and checks on power.
