Compassion is defined as recognizing another person's suffering, combined with an authentic desire to help alleviate that pain. Yet, when we cannot actually do anything to alleviate the pain—when there is nothing to be done-- does compassion still matter? My answer is yes, and I’ll tell you why.

This has been our tag line – a short version of who we are—since 2020, when we became Church of One Love. Now, as Unity of Farmers Branch, we move forward with the same sensibility of oneness. What, exactly does that mean? How many paths are there? How do we know which one is right for us?

Based on the central message of A Course in Miracles, this was the theme beloved founder of our church, Rev. Kay Hunter, used to explain her ministry and the church’s mission in a nutshell. We still claim this truth for Unity of Farmers Branch and try to fulfill it in everything we do. What does it mean to “teach only love?” and how do we do it?

Curiosity may be our most important tool on the spiritual path. It is the mark of Beginner’s Mind, allowing us to open to new information, insight and guidance. When we are curious about ourselves, the world, and our relationship to it, we begin to pay attention and to live a life of intention. Curiosity helps open us to more loving and intimate relationships, as when we are truly interested and really listen, we avoid making harmful assumptions and allow ourselves to know others in more meaningful ways.
