Hey, church ladies! In this episode, we think through the dangers of airing out conflict between believers or within the Church (local or global) on social media. With more and more exposure ministries popping up, thinking through the implications is worth the time. Too often, we see Christians commenting uncharitably, exposing brothers and sisters in Christ to public shame and scrutiny, and giving space to public gossip and slander.
Church discipline is good and right when it's done biblically, but "Discipline done wrongly can be harmful and hurtful...criticizing the discipline from a distance, without an awareness of all the facts, can damage the reputation of the church of Christ and her leaders." The world is watching, and we have a unique opportunity that previous generations have not had: to share the gospel with more people in our lifetime than any before us ever could.
Our digital reach is far, so let us redeem the time wisely among those who know little of Christ. Let's engage social media from the wisdom and understanding that we'll stand before Him and give an account for every idle word. (Matt. 12:36) Let's work together to represent the Name of Jesus well and guard His Bride from reproach.
