CHRISTOPHER LIAM ROSE TALKS ABOUT #CLRM - KARMA (CLRMK)

In Buddhism, karma means intentional action driven by mental volition, functioning as a natural law of cause and effect rather than a cosmic justice system, and shaping both present habits and future rebirths

In Buddhism, wholesome actions (kusala kamma) are skillful deeds driven by good intentions that bring peace and happiness. They grow from three roots: non-attachment (generosity), benevolence (loving-kindness), and understanding (wisdom)

In Buddhism, unwholesome actions (akusala kamma) are unskillful deeds driven by the Three Poisons—greed, hatred, and delusion. These actions of the body, speech, and mind create harmful results and future suffering.

    The Four Truths

Dukkha (The Truth of Suffering): Life involves pain, aging, sickness, death, and general dissatisfaction (dukkha).

Samudaya (The Origin of Suffering): Suffering comes from craving (tanha), selfish desire, and ignorance about reality.

Nirodha (The Cessation of Suffering): Suffering can stop when you let go of craving, leading to inner peace or nirvana.

    Magga (The Path to Cessation):
The way to end suffering is by following the Noble Eightfold Path

    Wisdom (Panna)

Right view: Knowing the true nature of life and the Four Noble Truths.

Right intention: Having a mind free from hate, bad desires, and harm.

    Ethical Conduct (Sila)

Right speech: Telling no lies, no rude words, and no useless talk.

    Right action:
Doing no harm, taking no life, and stealing nothing.

Right livelihood: Doing a clean job that hurts no living thing.

    Mental Discipline (Samadhi)

Right effort: Working hard to stop bad thoughts and grow good ones.

Right mindfulness: Keeping a clear and steady mind on the present.

Right concentration: Practicing deep meditation to steady the spirit.

CHRISTOPHER LIAM ROSE TALKS ABOUT #CLRM - THE FIRE SERMON (CLRMTFS)

The Fire Sermon (the Ādittapariyāya Sutta in the Pāli Canon) is a famous discourse where the Buddha declared that "all is burning". He taught that our six senses and mind are ablaze with the "fires" of craving, hatred, and delusion, binding us to the suffering of continual rebirth

The sermon was originally addressed to a group of 1,000 former fire-worshipping ascetics whom the Buddha had newly converted. To challenge their traditional beliefs, he used fire as a powerful psychological metaphor, explaining that every aspect of our sensory experience causes suffering

What is burning: The eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, as well as the external objects they contact and the consciousness/feelings that arise from these interactions.

What it is burning with: The fires of greed (rāga), hatred (dosa), and delusion (moha), which are further fueled by birth, aging, death, sorrow, and despair.

The path to liberation: By developing mindful awareness of these internal fires, a person grows disenchanted with grasping at impermanent things. Through this detachment, the fires are extinguished, leading to enlightenment and liberation.

According to Buddhist texts, this radical reinterpretation of fire immediately awakened the 1,000 monks, allowing them to break free from attachments and achieve complete enlightenment.
