  • The American Trap - Mark 10:17-31
    2026/07/13

What if the greatest threat to your faith isn't suffering—but success?

In Mark 10:17–27, Jesus encounters a wealthy, moral, deeply religious young man who seems to have everything. Yet beneath his respectable life is an idol he cannot see. This passage isn't simply about money; it's about the subtle ways good things become ultimate things.

In this sermon, we'll explore why self-deception is so dangerous, how wealth and comfort can quietly replace our dependence on God, and why only Jesus can free us from the false gods that promise life but leave us empty. We'll also consider what the shifting center of global Christianity reveals about the danger of comfortable religion and the power of a cross-shaped faith.

The question isn't whether you have money. The question is: What has your heart?

  • The Messiah We Didn't Expect: Understanding the Suffering King
    2026/06/22

We've all had moments when we thought we understood something perfectly, only to discover we'd completely missed the point. Maybe it was assembling furniture without instructions, confident the picture on the box was enough—only to end up with a lopsided disaster held together with makeshift reinforcements. Or perhaps it was a relationship where we misread every signal, certain we understood what was happening until reality came crashing down.

The worst mistakes aren't always made by people who know nothing. Sometimes they're made by people who know just enough to be dangerous.

This is precisely where we find Peter in Mark chapter 8. He gets the answer right when everyone else is confused. He correctly identifies Jesus as the Messiah. But while Peter understands Jesus's identity, he completely misunderstands Jesus's mission. He sees enough to know who Jesus is, but not enough to grasp what kind of Messiah He came to be.
