  • Eating With Awareness – What Tracking Taught Us About Ourselves
    2025/12/05

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 16, we explore tracking as a tool for awareness, not control. Most people think logging meals means restriction, obsessing, or losing freedom—but tracking can actually give your freedom back. Awareness is what transforms your relationship with food, and this episode shows how clarity, not discipline, leads to consistent, empowered choices.

Allen and I share our first honest experiences tracking food. I thought I was eating healthy—but logging revealed under-fueling, emotional snacking, and tiny meals that left me tired and frustrated. Allen realized he wasn’t eating enough to support energy, performance, or mood. Tracking didn’t shame us—it revealed the truth and gave us power to make aligned choices.

We explore why people avoid tracking, from fear of what it might reveal to diet culture messages that make calories feel moral—“good” or “bad.” Tracking isn’t judgment; it’s information. Just like checking your bank account, it’s better to know the truth than guess. Without awareness, habits remain invisible, and motivation alone can’t sustain results.

We dive into the lessons tracking teaches about awareness over emotion. Many food choices are emotional—stress, boredom, reward—rather than hunger. Tracking revealed patterns that allowed us to understand our body, stabilize energy, improve performance, and recognize true hunger cues. Awareness, not punishment, became the foundation for consistent habits.

We discuss the power of eliminating guesswork. Decisions became intentional instead of random. Tracking lets you see which meals fuel your energy, which leave you hungry, and how emotions affect choices. This allows you to create aligned, sustainable patterns rather than relying on willpower or restrictive rules.

Finally, tracking is a temporary education, not a forever rule. It teaches awareness, builds self-trust, and shows patterns. Once you know your body, you don’t stop making informed decisions—you just don’t need to track constantly anymore.

🎧 Listen to Episode 16 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to see how awareness transforms habits, fuels your Future Self, and makes consistent nutrition effortless.

  • Design Your Fuel Rhythm: Why Systems Beat Willpower Every Time
    2025/11/28

Episode 15: Design Your Fuel Rhythm – Why Systems Beat Willpower Every Time

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 15, we tackle why willpower alone doesn’t work and how designing a consistent, intentional fuel rhythm can make healthy eating effortless, stabilize your energy, and eliminate decision fatigue.

Most people think they need more discipline, more motivation, or more grit—but the truth is, the people who stay consistent aren’t necessarily more disciplined—they just have better systems. A well-designed fuel rhythm turns tough choices into automatic actions, so you stop negotiating with cravings, guessing what to eat, or restarting every Monday. Consistency becomes natural because the structure supports your life, not restricts it.

We start by defining what a fuel rhythm is: a simple, life-aligned pattern of eating that accounts for workouts, work schedules, travel, and recovery. When your meals are structured around your life, you stop wasting energy on constant decisions about what, when, or how to eat. Allen shares how building a rhythm stabilized his energy and improved every part of his day—from workouts to work to leadership—and I share how my competition prep became manageable and mentally sustainable thanks to structure, not punishment.

Next, we dive into decision fatigue—the hidden reason so many people fall off track. Every day, we make countless small decisions, from breakfast to snacks to late-night cravings. By 3pm, your brain is exhausted, not from work but from constant decision-making. Without a fuel rhythm, it’s easy to overeat, skip meals, or feel out of control. A rhythm removes the guesswork and allows your body and mind to trust the process.

We also tackle structure as freedom, not restriction. When your meals and nutrition choices are intentional, you free up mental space, reduce stress, and stop negotiating with yourself. Structure doesn’t limit; it protects your energy, mood, and focus. Allen and I share real-life stories of how creating patterns around training, busy workdays, travel, and rest days transformed consistency from a struggle into a lifestyle.

Episode 15 also calls out the cultural lies that make nutrition harder than it needs to be: work culture glorifies skipping meals, weekend culture promotes overindulgence, and fitness culture pushes rigid approaches that rarely survive real life. The solution? Design your environment and systems, not rely on fleeting willpower.

Finally, we explore what a fuel rhythm actually looks like (without teaching the course). It’s not about a strict meal plan, counting macros, or tracking forever—it’s about patterns that match your life. From timing carbs on training days, creating protein anchors during busy workdays, colorful micronutrient meals on rest days, pre-decisions for travel, to evening routines that prevent overeating—these patterns make consistency feel easy and automatic.

🎧 Listen to Episode 15 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to learn how to stop struggling with nutrition, reduce decision fatigue, and create a system that supports your energy, performance, and long-term habits. Systems beat willpower every time, and this episode shows you exactly why.

  • Reasons Over Rules – Why Most Diets Fail and How Your Why Changes Everything
    2025/11/20

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 14, we tackle why most diets fail and how understanding your “why” can completely change your results. Motivation and willpower fade. Rules and restriction don’t last. The key to building habits that stick is connecting your choices to your identity, your purpose, and your reasons.

Allen and I open by exploring why diets often fail. Meal plans, “good vs. bad” foods, and strict rules ignore the emotional, mental, and lifestyle factors that shape behavior. Without understanding the reasons behind your choices, consistency becomes a struggle, and motivation disappears when life gets stressful. True change requires alignment, not rigidity.

Next, we discuss the evolution of your why. Early motivations—like chasing vanity or a number on the scale—are fragile and easily derailed by real-life challenges. Over time, our reasons shifted to energy, confidence, peace, and freedom. When your why is deep, emotional, and tied to your identity, it supports habits that survive stress, setbacks, and life’s curveballs.

We then introduce the Reason List, a simple but powerful tool from our SUCCESS Framework: Nutrition Edition course. Writing down the reasons behind your choices—beyond looks or short-term goals—creates emotional anchors that pull you forward when motivation fades. Allen shares how freedom and longevity became his anchors; I share how building the woman I want to become kept me consistent, even during tough competition prep. When your reasons are bigger than temptation, consistency becomes self-respect, not struggle.

Episode 14 also highlights real-life “why” moments, showing how deeply personal motivations translate into action. Whether it’s getting out of bed early, showing up for a tough workout, or making better nutrition choices, your reasons make the difference. These stories illustrate that knowledge alone isn’t enough—alignment between your actions and identity is what builds sustainable habits.

Finally, we close by emphasizing that reasons last longer than rules. Rules fade. Motivation fades. But when your choices are tied to a meaningful why, consistency comes naturally. This episode sets the stage for next week, where we’ll discuss why restriction triggers rebellion and how to design systems that prevent the cycle of starting over every Monday.

🎧 Listen to Episode 14 of Cheese Curds & Coffee for a reflective, actionable conversation about building habits that last, understanding your why, and aligning your choices with the person you want to become.

  • Fueling the Future You
    2025/11/13

Episode 13: Fueling the Future You

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 13, we move from awareness to action and explore how intentionally fueling your body transforms not just how you look, but how you feel, perform, and live. This isn’t another diet episode—it’s about using food as fuel, building awareness around your choices, and connecting what you eat to the person you’re becoming.

We start by exploring the shift from noticing patterns to taking action. Allen and I share how awareness became the bridge between mindset and movement. Once we understood why we made certain choices, we were able to steer our behaviors intentionally, creating habits that align with our Future Self. I realized that my Future Self eats to fuel performance and recovery, not to punish herself or chase perfection. Allen shares how tracking meals and treating food as data instead of a test empowered him to make better decisions without guilt.

Next, we discuss food as fuel, not punishment. We unpack the cultural messages that convince us to fear carbs, skip meals, or treat eating like a moral test. When you see protein, carbs, and fats as tools rather than temptations, nutrition becomes empowering instead of stressful. Shifting from restriction to intention allows energy, confidence, and performance to flourish.

We also introduce the power of the pause, a simple but transformative practice that creates space between impulse and action. Whether it’s deciding what to eat or how to respond in life and business, pausing allows us to act from awareness rather than autopilot. This three-minute window builds mental resilience, reduces regret, and strengthens self-respect.

Another key concept we cover is Reasons Over Rules. Instead of relying on rigid rules or external discipline, we anchor our choices in meaningful reasons—values that reflect the Future Self we’re becoming. When your reasons are emotional, personal, and connected to your vision, consistency comes naturally. My reason evolved from “I want to look fit” to “I want energy, confidence, and peace”—a shift from appearance to momentum and identity.

Finally, we explore rhythm and structure in your nutrition. Designing a “fuel rhythm” around your week—like mapping meals alongside workouts or work commitments—reduces decision fatigue, creates automatic healthy choices, and provides freedom, not restriction. By building these systems, eating with intention becomes natural and sustainable.

Throughout the episode, we emphasize that fueling your future self isn’t about perfection. Each meal, snack, and decision is an opportunity to reinforce the person you’re becoming. Start small, act with awareness, and use food as evidence of your commitment to your Future Self.

🎧 Listen to Episode 13 of Cheese Curds & Coffee to learn practical strategies, mindset shifts, and systems for fueling your life with intention, purpose, and alignment. Start seeing your nutrition as momentum, not punishment.

  • Episode 12: Celebrating the Journey – The Milestones Along the Way
    2025/11/06

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 12, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the journey—to reflect on the wins, the milestones, and the countless small choices that made them possible. This episode is all about gratitude, reflection, and proof that living with intention and consistency works.

Allen and I open up about some incredible milestones we’ve recently experienced. First, the launch of our beta course, The SUCCESS Framework: Nutrition Edition—a project we’ve nurtured for years and now finally see come to life. Seeing our first students go through it and experience those “aha” moments reinforces that awareness, alignment, and consistent habits truly create transformation.

Next, we celebrate a personal best in the gym. Months of persistence, mental focus, and showing up even when progress felt slow culminated in hitting a new Snatch PR. This wasn’t just a strength milestone—it was a testament to the power of mindset, persistence, and working through mental barriers. It’s proof that progress is built from the small wins that nobody sees.

We also share a financial milestone five and a half years in the making. This achievement isn’t just about money—it represents freedom, stability, opportunity, and alignment. Years ago, we wrote down our vision at a random lunch, uncertain how we’d get there. Today, we see the compound effect of consistent, intentional decisions in action. These milestones remind us that success isn’t about luck or hustling harder—it’s about clarity, alignment, and persistent effort.

Throughout the episode, we reflect on what these wins teach us: success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built on micro choices made every single day, guided by vision, awareness, and intentional action. We emphasize gratitude, showing up consistently, and designing your life with purpose. Whether it’s in fitness, nutrition, entrepreneurship, or personal growth, the principles remain the same: consistency, alignment, and small, intentional habits compound into lasting results.

🎧 Listen to Episode 12 of Cheese Curds & Coffee for an uplifting, grounded, and real conversation about celebrating the journey, recognizing the wins that often go unseen, and staying committed to the process of building the life you envision.

  • The Discipline Trap: Why Trying Harder Isn’t the Answer
    2025/10/29

Episode 11: The Discipline Trap – Why Trying Harder Isn’t the Answer

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 11, we’re tackling the discipline trap—why trying harder and relying on willpower alone isn’t the path to long-term success. Most of us don’t need more motivation or grit; we need more awareness. Understanding why we don’t stick with habits, even when we know what to do, is the key to creating lasting change in fitness, nutrition, and life.

Allen and I share the stories that shaped our beliefs about discipline and how those beliefs almost burned us out. For me, discipline started as control: if I could be strict, small, and perfect, I thought I was doing it right. For Allen, his Army background taught him that discipline meant survival—but when applied rigidly to personal life, it led to burnout and frustration. These early lessons made us realize that discipline used as punishment keeps you stuck, while awareness and alignment create sustainable progress.

We discuss how discipline often becomes punishment instead of guidance. During my first competition prep, obsession with perfection—every gram, every workout, every scale check—felt lauded by others but miserable internally. Allen shares similar experiences, trying to control every aspect of his life with strict routines, only to feel exhausted and disconnected from his goals. Culture often celebrates overwork, “no days off,” and earning your progress—but that mindset can lead to burnout rather than lasting health. True discipline is about alignment, not intensity for intensity’s sake.

The heart of this episode is awareness. By paying attention to our habits, triggers, and internal messages, we can choose differently. I share how noticing patterns—like stress eating or feeling guilty for resting—helped me reclaim control. Allen talks about tracing behavior loops: message → thought → belief → action. Awareness isn’t a one-time fix; it’s a daily practice that creates space for intentional change.

We also dive into rewriting the rules: replacing rules and guilt with anchors and reasons. Instead of relying on willpower, we anchor daily choices to meaningful values. Allen’s anchor is freedom—to move, think, and live with energy and peace. Mine is energy—to show up fully for my family, athletes, and myself. When your choices are driven by purpose instead of punishment, discipline stops feeling like a burden and starts feeling natural.

Finally, we talk about designing the next 10 years. Small, consistent habits today shape the person you’ll be in a decade. It’s not about adding years to life, but adding life to your years—living strong, present, and energized. This episode sets the stage for the next chapter of the show: exploring how awareness, identity, and small systems can change your relationship with food, fitness, and success without relying on strict discipline or perfection.

  • Episode 10: Design the Decade – The Foundation of a Healthier Future
    2025/10/22

Hey, I’m Katie, and welcome back to Cheese Curds & Coffee, where we turn life’s mess into momentum—one challenge at a time. In Episode 10, we’re talking about designing your decade—creating a vision for the future that drives every decision you make about your health, habits, and nutrition. Lasting transformation doesn’t start with cutting carbs or counting macros—it starts with clarity, identity, and awareness.

We dive into why vision comes before action. Action without direction can burn you out. You can follow every diet or program, but if it isn’t connected to who you want to become, it won’t stick. When you know your “why,” every choice has purpose. I share how having a long-term vision changed my approach to health, helping me focus on building the person I want to be ten years from now—strong, confident, and consistent—rather than obsessing over day-to-day perfection.

Next, we explore the concept of your future self. Where do you start if you’ve never thought about who you want to become? Start simple: imagine your life ten years from now. What does a healthy day look like? What habits does that version of you already follow? In the episode, we introduce a version of this called the Ten-Year Mirror Exercise from our Nutrition Edition course, which helps listeners create a clear picture of their future self. Once that vision is established, small, intentional actions—like drinking water before coffee or making time for breakfast—become obvious first steps to align with that vision.

We also discuss the missing ingredient: awareness. So often we know what to do but fail to act. Awareness creates control instead of guilt. Tracking sleep, hydration, meals, or even patterns of snacking and skipping meals allows you to notice behaviors, understand triggers, and create systems that support your goals. Awareness is about observation, not judgment, and it sets the foundation for sustainable, compounding progress.

Episode 10 also includes an action step for listeners: take five minutes to journal on the question, “Who am I becoming, and what does that version of me value?” Then pick one small habit that aligns with that vision—maybe it’s walking after dinner, drinking a glass of water before each meal, or another simple action. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s alignment. Each small, consistent step builds momentum toward the person you’re becoming.

Finally, we transition into the next phase of the Nutrition Edition course: Fuel Foundations. Next week, we’ll move from mindset into mechanics, showing how to fuel your body confidently with macros and energy balance. The focus is empowerment, not restriction, connecting your vision to your daily habits so you can build a sustainable, healthy nutrition lifestyle.
