Today we're diving into the incredible life of Dr. James Francis "Frank" Pantridge, the physician whose vision transformed emergency medicine forever.

Before portable defibrillators, suffering a cardiac arrest outside the hospital was almost always a death sentence. Pantridge refused to accept that reality. Drawing on experiences that included surviving one of World War II's most brutal prisoner-of-war camps, he pioneered the world's first portable defibrillator and created the first mobile intensive care ambulance—bringing lifesaving cardiac care directly to patients.

His ideas were considered radical. Many believed ordinary people could never safely use a defibrillator. Pantridge disagreed, and his determination ultimately led to the development of the modern Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that now hangs in airports, schools, gyms, and workplaces around the world.
