Ten months ago Miami beat Stanford 42-7. Almost everything you remember about that night is the number 42. Here's what actually happened: Stanford took the opening drive down the field and scored. Miami didn't tie it until the last minute of the second quarter, and the crowd booed the offense off at the half. It was 7-7. Miami then won the second half 35-0 and Stanford managed three first downs — the Hurricanes were enormously better, and that's the real story of the game. But "tied at halftime" and "over by halftime" are two very different memories, and most of us are carrying the wrong one. And that team doesn't exist anymore. New head coach. New offensive coordinator. New defensive coordinator. New quarterback. And a roster built on a strategy that no other Power 4 program in the country is running.
