Join Pastor Peter as we continue our study through the book of Numbers. As we talked about last week, Balaam is actually a pretty ambiguous figure. He is a prophet of God, but he practices sorcery. He is an example of submitting to the will of God over ambition in the last chapter as well as the next two, but he later succumbs to his ambition and leads the Israelites into idolatry. So when this chapter picks up, we see that Balaam is sacrificing to God before he prophecies over the nation of Israel. The highlight of Balaam’s prophecy is that as he seeks the will of God, he is brought to see the ministry of Christ. This is always the case. The more we seek the will of God in our lives, the more we will see Jesus and His glory!What does God's word have to say? Join Pastor Peter as we continue our study through the book of Numbers. For the ancient person, it would be stories like this, the more mythic and symbolic, that would be the most edifying for them. Whereas the modern person is mainly put off from the strangeness of this story and gets hung up on the literal nature of this story, IE, did Balaam’s donkey literally speak to him or not.Balaam, like Jonah, was not punished for being faithful, but for being faithless. Christ is the faithful prophet who humbled Himself to the point of the cross. He allowed the voice of conscience and humility to guide Him to the full and complete knowledge of God’s will in His life, but He also had the ambition to live into that call, even though it cost Him His life.What does God's word have to say? At this point in the story, the older generation that rebelled against God and refused to enter into the land of Canaan has passed away in the wilderness and the younger generation is moving into the land of Canaan in order to take it.Christ, being the center and the source of life could never be destroyed by death, but instead destroy death by entering into it. Christ being the center of all light, would destroy darkness by allowing Himself to be swallowed by it. Join Pastor Peter for a special Father's Day message in the book of 1 Kings 2:1-9. Of all the myriads of passages that we could meditate on to highlight the beauty and the power of fatherhood, this year I was drawn to the above passage. Here David is nearing the end of his life and he is passing on the throne to his son Solomon. As a part of this ceremony David passes along to Solomon some final words of wisdom. What was once a scandal, that Christ would call unworthy sinners, will be made righteous by the power of His mercy and the potency of His love. As we continue through the book of Numbers, we reach a chapter that signifies a true passing of the older generation.The older generation, the ones who saw the rise of Egyptian tyranny, and God’s delivery from that tyranny are beginning to pass away.

Wandering in the aimlessness of our own sin and our own attempts to make our lives enough to please our image of God. But the true God comes in the flesh, allows Himself to be killed, so that we might be forgiven. This is the true One whom we glorify, and in Him we find our home!

Join Pastor Peter as we continue our study through the book of Numbers. Last week we went over Numbers 16 and 17 which describes the rebellion that was led by a coalition of religious and political figures that opposed the rule of Moses and Aaron. Far from God simply telling the children of Israel that they merely have to accept Aaron and Moses as their leaders because “He said so”, He instead reveals the heart of Moses and Aaron and establishes the purpose of true leadership and the reason for Godly hierarchy. No matter what capacity we have as a leader, this is what we strive to do.
