  • Is Video Podcasting Hard

Hey, Podcasters! About a month ago, the Buzzcast team turned the show into a video podcast.

Rather than speculate about whether video is worth it, they decided to try it themselves and see what actually happened.

Some parts have been exactly what they expected. Others... not so much!

In this episode of Buzzcast they discussed what they learned after the first month, including the real numbers, what surprised them most, and one recording mistake that still hurts to think about.

    They also cover:

    • How many people are actually watching on Apple Podcasts
    • What the early video stats are starting to reveal
    • Why editing video takes much longer than editing audio
    • And how one failed recording reinforced the importance of a reliable workflow

A big takeaway is that they still think audio is the easiest way to start a podcast!

If you've been thinking about adding video, or you're already experimenting with it, this episode gives an honest look at the tradeoffs after a month of real-world experience!

  • Buzzsprout Creator Spotlight: Cycling Together with Kristin & Steve
    2026/07/07

    Hey Podcasters!

One of my favorite things about podcasting is that your show almost never grows the way you expect it to!

Kristin and Steve started their podcast, Cycling Together with Kristin & Steve, thinking it would help people discover their bike shop. Instead, it opened up an otherwise intimidating hobby to a lot of new riders!

Every two weeks, a new episode sparks conversations at local rides and keeps them connected with customers between visits.

One listener even told them they bought their daughter a better bike because of something they heard on the podcast!

Adding video podcasting is another interesting part of their growth!

Kristin was convinced people wouldn't watch a podcast, but Steve disagreed because he consumes almost everything about cycling on YouTube. To him, video content is another place people discover new ideas.

Turns out, Steve was right, and now around half of their Apple Podcasts downloads are from video!

What I love is that they didn't let video become another complicated project. They record wherever it makes sense: a guest room, a parking lot after a ride, even while traveling.

As Kristin put it, "You can make this as complicated or as easy as you want... we've just decided it's better done than right."

I think that's why the podcast works so well: they're not chasing perfect production. They're focused on making content about a hobby and sport they love!

If you're looking for a great example of a podcast that's making a real impact in its community, check out Cycling Together with Kristin & Steve.

  • Buzzsprout Creator Spotlight: Two Guys on a Plane
    2026/06/30

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey Podcasters!

For years, Rich and Andrew kept hearing the same thing from their social media followers:

    "You should start a podcast."

As flight attendants, they'd built a large audience by creating polished, entertaining videos online. So if they were going to launch a podcast, they knew listeners would expect that same experience.

They wanted the podcast to feel like a step forward, so when they finally launched Two Guys on a Plane, video was part of the plan from day one!

As Rich put it, "We've always had the mindset that your audience is everywhere. Don't stick to one platform."

For Two Guys on a Plane, one recording becomes a lot of things: an audio podcast episode, YouTube content, social clips, and now a video podcast on Apple Podcasts.

Instead of creating something new for every platform, they're getting more value from the conversation they're already having!

That same philosophy carried over to their workflow.

With two busy flight attendant schedules, they batch record several episodes in one studio session each month. The studio handles the cameras and production, and Rich and Andrew get to focus on the conversation instead of the technology.

When it's time to publish, they keep it just as streamlined.

Rich told us that one of his favorite parts of publishing video on Buzzsprout is being able to upload one video file and have it automatically appear on Apple Podcasts alongside the audio version of the show.

"Being able to just upload to Buzzsprout as you would the normal audio episode and have it pushed to pretty much everywhere is such a nice feature."

I think that's what makes this a great example for other podcasters.

They knew they wanted to start with video because it helped them reach the audience they'd already built, so they found a workflow that made video podcasting sustainable.

It's easy to get intimidated by video podcasting, especially if it feels like a one-size-fits-all solution. But, there are many ways video can add something to your show!

If you've been thinking about experimenting with video, you can upgrade to a Buzzsprout video plan and start publishing video episodes to Apple Podcasts.

  • Buzzsprout Creator Spotlight: Got Any Cows?
    2026/06/23

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey Podcasters!

One of the reasons I love highlighting Buzzsprout creators is that they often find uses for podcasting that most of us would never think of!

    Take Got Any Cows.

It's a podcast hosted by Seth Christensen, who runs a cattle operation in Idaho. He originally started the show because he wanted a more consistent way to connect with customers than the occasional Facebook post.

Then listeners started asking: "Can we see the cows?"

And that question changed the podcast!

Instead of recording in a studio, Seth and his producer Jacob started recording on the ranch, in the truck, and anywhere the work was actually happening.

Video became a way to bring listeners into the story. When Seth talks about a cow he's selling, people can see the animal. When he's discussing ranch operations, they can see the ranch itself.

What stood out to me is that they didn't add video because they felt pressure to. They added it because it made the podcast better!

And they didn't build a giant production around it either. Most episodes are recorded with a couple of cameras and a lavalier mic. The focus is still on the conversation and the story.

It's easy to get intimidated by video podcasts, but that feels like an important lesson for the rest of us: you don't need a lot of fancy gear.

Jacob, the producer of Got Any Cows?, recommends, "If someone is considering starting a video podcast but feels overwhelmed by the amount of work involved, start small. Sit in front of a window for natural lighting, skip buying equipment at first, use your phone to record, and get a simple $20 tripod to hold it."

The best video podcasts are shows where video adds something listeners couldn't get from audio alone.

And for Got Any Cows, that approach is working!

They've been early adopters of video on Apple Podcasts, using Buzzsprout to help them stand out in a niche where very few creators are doing the same.

If you've ever thought about trying video, I'd take a page from Seth and Jacob's playbook: start with what makes your podcast interesting and ask yourself whether video helps tell that story.

And if the answer is yes, you can upgrade to a Buzzsprout video plan and start publishing video episodes to Apple Podcasts!

  • Apple Podcasts or Youtube?
    2026/06/16

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey, Podcasters!

One of the questions we've been hearing a lot lately is:

"If I'm making video for my podcast, should I put it on Apple Podcasts or YouTube?"

The good news is that you don't necessarily have to choose.

In this week's video, Tom Buck breaks down the differences between the two platforms and why they actually serve different purposes.

A simple way to think about it:

    • YouTube helps new people discover your content
    • Apple Podcasts helps existing listeners watch your show
    • Both can play an important role in your podcast growth

He also walks through video distribution in Buzzsprout! Upload one video file, and Buzzsprout will send the video to Apple Podcasts while continuing to deliver the audio to all your other directories.

If you've been curious about video podcasting or wondering whether Apple Podcasts should be part of your strategy, check out this video!

  • Should You Start a New Show?
    2026/06/09

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey, Podcasters!

Most podcast advice focuses on how to keep your show going. But this week on Buzzcast, we explored a different question: When is it time to start something new?

We're not talking about quitting podcasting. In fact, quite the opposite.

We're talking about when a podcast naturally reaches the end of its run.

Sometimes it's because your interests evolve. And other times, you've learned so much from your first show that you're ready to apply those skills to a new idea.

One of my favorite takeaways from the episode was that some projects end like a funeral, but others can end like a graduation!

You finished what you set out to do, and now you're excited about what's next.

In this episode, the Buzzcast team talks about several reasons podcasters start a second show:

    • They've discovered a new topic they're genuinely excited about • They've outgrown the original format • They want to experiment with a different style of podcasting • They have uncovered a new idea while creating their current show

The good news is that none of the work from your first podcast goes away! You still have the skills, the experience, the confidence behind the mic, and everything you've learned along the way.

So if you've been kicking around a new podcast idea or wondering whether it's time to explore something different, I think you'll really enjoy this conversation!

  • Should You Start a Video Podcast?
    2026/06/02

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey, Podcasters!

It feels like every week there's a new post asking the same question:

"Should I start a video podcast?"

With video showing up in more podcast directories, and with Buzzsprout now offering video plans, it's easy to feel like you're falling behind if you're not recording every episode on camera.

Video can be a great fit for some shows! It can help if your content has a visual component, if you want more options for promotion, or if your audience enjoys watching as much as listening.

But before you start shopping for cameras and redesigning your recording space, it's worth taking a step back.

This week on Podcasting Q&A, Cara and Jordan break down three things to consider before adding video to your workflow:

    • The extra time it takes to record and edit video
    • The real costs of hosting and storing video files
    • Whether your audience actually wants a video version of your show

One of my favorite takeaways from the episode is that video isn't automatically better, but it's not automatically worse, either.

The right answer depends on your show, your audience, and the kind of experience you're trying to create!

If you've been wondering whether video is worth it, this episode will help you make the decision with confidence.

  • How to Get Booked on Podcasts
    2026/05/26

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'

    Hey, Podcasters!

A lot of podcasters assume getting booked as a guest is all about having a huge audience or impressive credentials.

But that's usually not what hosts care about.

Hosts want guests who have something clear to contribute and make the conversation interesting!

This week on Buzzcast, we’re joined again by Alex Sanfilippo, founder of Podmatch, to talk about how to actually get booked on podcasts.

One of the biggest takeaways: your guest profile should not read like a résumé!

Instead, it should make a host immediately picture you on their podcast.

    We also talk through:

    • How to suggest episode ideas naturally
    • What links and assets to include
    • Why authenticity matters more than sounding impressive
    • How guesting helps you become a better communicator

And if you want more practical tips on pitching yourself as a guest, we also recently published a blog post on How to Get Booked on Podcasts in 2026.

If you’ve been thinking about guesting on other podcasts, or improving the way you pitch yourself, this episode will help!
