Quote From Research: “Without deliberate intervention to redefine masculine success beyond economic provision and to challenge the Man Box's emotional restrictions, we risk losing an entire generation of men to depression, anxiety, and despair.”

DESCRIPTION:
Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of being a featured guest on The BottomsUp Podcast: Rising From Trauma to Transformation with Kerie Hamilton. She is truly an incredible woman and a powerful voice for trauma recovery and domestic violence awareness. Kerie asked me thoughtful and challenging questions about my life prior to getting sober and after achieving sobriety. She even shared an inspiring and emotional story about how her step-father wrote an amends letter to her while attending AA meetings and working on his own sobriety journey.

Kerie is also the author of a powerful new book titled “Sorry Satan, This Soul Is For The Savior.” In it, she courageously writes about growing up in a physically abusive home and finding the strength to leave a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. I haven’t read her book yet, but it’s definitely on my reading list. You can learn more about her book and resources for survivors of abuse on her website: https://bottomsupwithkh.com/.

Beginning October 1st of this year, Kerie also launched a YouTube Channel called Breaking FREE: Life After Domestic Violence. On Breaking FREE From Domestic Violence, she posts daily videos exploring the many dynamics and warning signs of DV, offering support, education, and healing tools for survivors.

Kerie has been my biggest inspiration this month to spread the word about domestic violence awareness and prevention. In this episode, I share the first couple of pages from the domestic violence pamphlet that was emailed to me about three months after my divorce. At that time, I never believed I could have ended up in a situation where I was subjected to such intense emotional abuse. I thought that unless there were punches being thrown, it wasn’t “real” domestic violence. I was SO wrong.

So, in this podcast episode, I break down some of the most common myths and facts about domestic violence, highlight the red flags everyone should look out for, and discuss the often overlooked but devastating impact of emotional abuse in relationships.

Finally, Kerie and I have agreed to start a new podcast called, “The Ren & Kerie Annnnnnd #GFY Show.” We recorded our first episode last night and I’m in the process of editing it right now. We plan on recording at least three more episodes before we publish anything. Our conversations will be light hearted and discuss current events and random topics that we know an audience will enjoy. More to come on that later!

Keep smiling,
R-
