  • Building A Business With Your Spouse | Ep. 12
    2026/07/23

People love the idea of building a business with your spouse, right up until it’s time to decide who leads, who answers the email, and how you talk to each other when you disagree. We get honest about what it really takes to be married and be business partners at the same time, including the parts that look great on camera and the parts that absolutely do not.

We start with our backstory, from the season where Charles is a high school principal and Jonsi is holding down the home, to the stress that pushed us into a major pivot. We talk leadership, culture, and why “branding” is not just a logo. It’s the environment, the standards, and the signals you send every day. That journey shapes how we think about entrepreneurship, family business decisions, and protecting your health while you chase a vision.

Then we get practical about couple entrepreneurship: launching an in-home preschool, learning marketing, and figuring out a real division of labor based on strengths. We share the role friction that shows up when one person lives by schedules and the other lives by energy, plus the Home Depot story that sums up our whole dynamic. From there, we break down communication, respect, tone, and the difference between CEO mode and spouse mode, along with the tricky truth that “unplugging” is hard when your business is always on your mind.

If you’re building a business as a couple, or you’re thinking about it, hit play and take notes. Subscribe for more branding and business clarity, share this with another couple who needs it, and leave a review with the biggest challenge you’re working through right now.

Thanks for listening to Brand Currency, where we have honest conversations about branding, business, and what it really takes to build a brand that people trust.

  • Why Conversions Beat Followers For Small Business Growth | Ep. 11
    2026/07/16

We hit a million dollars in revenue with fewer than 400 Instagram followers, almost no ads, and zero “viral moment” to point to. That is not a humblebrag, it is proof that small business growth does not have to be built on internet fame. We are Charles and Jonsi McGill, and we are pulling back the curtain on what actually moved the needle for our branding and design business: conversions, clarity, and a client experience that makes the right people feel instantly at home.

We talk through the myth of more, why visibility is not the same thing as alignment, and how getting serious about our message and our process raised our close rate dramatically. You will hear the behind-the-scenes shifts we made to onboarding, service agreements, and expectation-setting, plus how refining our offer into a simpler unlimited design model helped prospects understand what they are buying. We also share what changed when we stopped trying to look like the market and started positioning like a premium brand, including the website and copy updates that made people read top-to-bottom and book a call.

If you are sitting at 200 followers and feeling stuck, this conversation gives you a better next step than chasing 2,000: sell what you already have, prove the offer, and tighten the foundation before you pour on traffic. If you get value from this, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more business owners can build brands that convert.

  • Branding Vs Marketing Vs Design | Ep. 10
    2026/07/09

You can have a big audience, steady traffic, and “good marketing” and still wonder why sales feel stuck. That’s the moment we stop chasing more visibility and start asking a harder question: is the real problem your branding, your design, or your marketing? We unpack the difference in plain language, because mixing these terms leads to expensive mistakes, especially for small business owners, coaches, speakers, authors, and service providers trying to grow online.

We define branding as your reputation and the lived customer experience people associate with your name. Marketing is the traffic and visibility that gets you noticed. Design is the visual presentation that shapes emotion, trust, and clarity across your website, offers, and content. Using a McDonald’s example (yes, including the order mix-ups), we show how a brand can lose loyalty even when the marketing machine is strong, and why “rebranding” is often just a redesign when what you really need is a better experience.

We also get practical about conversion rate problems: why scaling ads before validating an offer can burn money, how to test before you go big, and how to spot friction in your sales funnel (too many clicks, confusing steps, broken automation). If you’re debating a new logo, a new website, or a new campaign, this framework helps you choose the right fix in the right order: brand clarity first, design second, marketing third.

If this helps, subscribe, share it with a business friend who’s stuck, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What’s the one area you think is holding your sales back right now: brand, design, or marketing?
