このコンテンツについて

Host Ankit Choudhury will help immerse students into the wonderful world of neuroscience under the mentorship of Dr. Erik Herzog. We encourage all students interested in neuroscience to follow along with us. Students preparing for their respective Brain Bee competitions may find this information particularly helpful. In each episode, Ankit will review a topic from Brain Facts published by the Society for Neuroscience and interview an expert on said topic. • Ep. 6: The Connectome with Dr. Michael Tadross
    2023/06/29

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind the Connectome. Using material presented in Brain Facts published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about how our neurons communicate with one another, and how our brain is able to encode information to interpret, process, and respond to the different stimuli in our environment.

My guest is Dr. Michael Tadross, an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurobiology at Duke University. Dr. Tadross has developed a cutting-edge tool for cell-type-specific pharmacology, DART (drug acutely restricted by tethering). His lab is a combination of engineers and neuroscientists working together to address conceptual questions in neuroscience.

  • Ep. 5: Language Processing and Birdsong with Dr. Marc Schmidt
    2023/02/06

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind Language Processing and Birdsong. Using material presented in Brain Facts published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about how our brain is able to make sense of speech sounds and some of the major brain regions involved with language processing.

My guest is Dr. Marc Schmidt, a Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts & Sciences and the Co-Director of the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program. His lab is broadly interested in understanding the neural mechanisms that underlie courtship display utilizing songbirds.

  • Ep. 4: Addiction with Dr. Julie Blendy
    2023/01/09

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind Addiction. Using material presented in the Brain Facts Book published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about the neurological basis of addiction and the effect it has on the brain.

My guest is Dr. Julie Blendy, a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Where she is a member of the Institute for Neurological Science and the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics. In addition to that, she also serves as the Chair of the Pharmacology Graduate Group. Her lab is broadly interested in understanding the molecular basis for the biochemical and behavioral changes associated with chronic drug use.
