- At 4:17 AM on July 9 a wave knocked the EPIRB off its bracket and it transmitted with a position uncertainty of 11 miles due to a recalled antenna fault.
- Seas built to 18 feet while the search concentrated north; a sensor buoy had drifted off-station causing the drift model to underweight a southward current reversal.
