Interview with Maxwell Modeen and Joseph Hoisington, the Post-Punk Duo Deep Heaven. This is a much longer interview than I've been doing lately, and I am so excited to share it with you. I got the chance to see the band perform live at the Neurolux on July 12th, and it made me understand their musical vision so much more. Blood Lemon, a mainstay of the Boise scene despite bassist Melanie Radford’s recent move to nearby Seattle, received plenty of praise for their eponymous debut released in the throes of the pandemic. NPR Music, A.V. Club, SPIN, and other outlets of repute lauded their debut that garnered comparisons to other beloved female-fronted influences like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders.

Jesse Blake Rundle, a songwriter and composer based in Boise, Idaho, has made a career out of creating intricate, authentic folk rock. On his latest album, Next Town’s Trees, he continues expanding musically and lyrically, with songs that reach deep into his emotional core. “I wrote these songs during a time of immense change,” he says. “I was finally leaving the church, uncovering my sexuality, starting my first relationship with a man, finding joy in sobriety and settling into my life as a musician.”
