• 7. Homecoming Warnings: Waiting for the Shift to End
    2026/08/22

We talk about the uneasy space after a long shift when you miss your partner and still feel tense about them walking through the door. We name the nervous system load behind homecoming anxiety and share concrete ways to make reentry calmer, kinder, and more doable for the whole family.

    • anticipating reunion and why it can feel tense
    • transition rituals and building a homecoming buffer
    • noticing fuse length and making space before conflict
    • decision fatigue and why small choices feel huge
    • self-care as protection, not perfection
    • co-regulation versus codependence and why support matters
    • social buffering and choosing a few quality people
    • clear communication, boundaries, and concrete requests
    • burnout, shame, and giving yourself permission to be not okay
    • recovery as a family process with simple mantras

  • 6. The Shift & The Nervous System
    2026/08/22

You can crave the sound of their keys in the door and still feel your stomach drop when the door actually opens. That isn’t you being unloving. It’s “The Shift” and it’s what happens when your nervous system has spent days in survival mode while your partner works a first responder schedule. We talk honestly about the weird blend of longing, resentment, worry, and relief that can show up in firefighter families, law enforcement households, military relationships, and any home shaped by long shifts and high stress work.

We dig into the body side of it too: the jaw clench, the curled toes, the tense back, the restless sleep, the mental scanning that never stops. When tasks stack and routines break, cumulative stress builds until one minor mess or one forgotten item becomes the final demand that breaks a system that’s already full. We name hyperarousal and decision fatigue for what they are: nervous system states, not character flaws, and we call out the shame that keeps people stuck.

Then we get practical. We share “minimum effective self-care” ideas that are doable on your hardest days, and we walk through tools for the homecoming transition: choosing true priorities, creating a 20 to 30 minute homecoming buffer, naming the state before the story, and making one clear request instead of running secret tests. We also talk about loneliness, stigma around therapy and EAP use, and why reaching out matters when things get dark behind the badge.

If this hits home, subscribe so you don’t miss what’s next, share it with someone living the shift life, and leave a review so more first responder families can find real support. What part of the transition is hardest for you right now?

  • 5. Oy Vey, Let's Dig In - The Unedited Life
    2026/07/19

I hit record without cleaning up the sound or the story because real life does not pause for a tidy intro. You might hear pets, kids, distractions, and the kind of chaos that makes you think you should wait until everything is calm before you speak, create, or even rest. I’m done waiting. If you’ve been stuck in perfectionism, constantly editing yourself, or telling yourself “once this season is over, then I’ll live,” this conversation is for you.

We talk about Shabbat, Shalom, and why peace is not the same as silence. Shalom is wholeness, even when the day feels broken into pieces. I share what it looks like to parent through fear and big feelings, to manage the constant transitions of a first responder household, and to lean on communication when stress makes everyone feel incompatible. We also touch on tikkun olam, repairing the world, and how that can start by giving ourselves permission to admit our own world is messy.

Then we get practical about stress management and mental health: how burnout and compassion fatigue show up, how grief and business pressure can trigger “daymares,” and why the body’s symptoms matter. I also bring in a CBT lens on cognitive distortions like catastrophizing and all-or-nothing thinking, with encouragement to notice the pattern, ask what purpose it serves, and challenge it gently.

If this helped you feel less alone, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find honest conversations like this.

  • Bonus: I Almost Quit Before I Began And Here Is Why
    2026/07/11

Bonus: I Almost Quit Before I Began And Here Is Why

The part nobody tells you about “showing up” is how close you can be to not showing up at all. We share the story behind why this podcast almost didn’t happen, and we get honest about what life looks like when you’re juggling too much at once: parenting, marriage, leadership, running a group practice, financial pressure, and the emotional weight that comes with being a therapist who holds space for other people all day.

We dig into overwhelm and burnout in a practical way, including how stress shows up as real somatic symptoms like jaw clenching, tight muscles, disrupted sleep, and that creeping sense of running on fumes. We talk about the trap of minimizing, the relief that comes with insight, and why social support matters when you’re carrying impossible expectations. If you’ve ever felt like everyone thinks you have it together while you’re quietly falling apart, you’ll feel seen here.

We also speak directly to the unique strain of being a first responder spouse, especially when your partner is gone for 48 to 72 hour shifts. That distance can create loneliness, burnout, and a constant pressure to keep things steady at home. We explore what it means to be present again when anxiety keeps pulling you into the future and sadness pulls you into nostalgia, and we share a grounded reminder: the goal is not shame or guilt, it’s learning how to come back to your life while you’re living it.

If this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who’s stretched thin, and leave a review so more people can find the support. What part of your life feels the heaviest right now?

  • Trailer: What If Being Human Is The Point
    2026/07/11

This show lives where therapy meets real life. Life Behind the Badge, Behind the Therapy Office and Behind the Scenes.

We talk about the unseen pressure behind high-expectation roles: therapists, healthcare professionals, first responder families, parents, entrepreneurs, and anyone who spends their days helping others while quietly forgetting they’re human too. If you’ve ever thought, “Why does it feel like I’m the only one struggling?” you’re exactly who I made this for.

You’ll hear educational episodes, honest moments, and the kind of humor that shows up when you’re drinking too much coffee and trying to convince yourself you’ve got it handled. I’ll also bring in interviews with therapists, first responders, business owners, researchers, and people with incredible stories worth telling. New episodes drop every week, so hit follow, share this with someone who needs it, and leave a review to help more people find a place that feels real.

  • 4. Putting Out Fires Without A Hose
    2026/07/07

Helping people for a living can make you feel like you should have it together, but the truth is messier. We get real about the gap nobody prepares you for: being good at care is not the same thing as being good at running a business.

I share what it’s like to juggle clinical work, leadership decisions, and the pressure of quality oversight while still trying to be a present parent and a functioning human who needs actual rest. If you’re a therapist, group practice owner, or any kind of helper, you’ll recognize the quiet weight of carrying it all.

Then we shift into home life with a first responder schedule and why “consistent and consistently inconsistent” can be the perfect phrase for the stress it creates. When a firefighter spouse comes home after a long shift, couples often have to renegotiate parenting, chores, and emotional bandwidth in real time. That’s where miscommunication, solo parenting exhaustion, and the sense of disorientation can sneak in. We also name the taboo feelings, resentment toward the job, missing your partner while they’re sitting next to you, and the fear of scheduling or technology failures when you’re already at capacity.

We ground it with practical mental health tools and a CBT framework: thoughts and emotions show up on their own, but behavior is where we still have choices. We talk about decompression, advocacy, communication boundaries, and small rituals like weekly check ins and family meetings that can make life feel less like whiplash.

Finally, we zoom in on burnout signals in the body, the clenched jaw, the tight chest, the curled toes, as a cue to slow down and reassess before you hit the wall. If any of this hits close to home, listen through and share it with someone who’s carrying a heavy load too. Subscribe for more honest conversations, and leave a review with the coping ritual that helps you most.

  • 3. When You Do Not Have It Together
    2026/07/07

You can be good at what you do and still feel like you are barely holding it together - I’m talking straight about the messy middle: burnout, emotional labor, and the quiet pressure to be the reliable one for clients, family, and everyone counting on you.

I dig into a truth a lot of helpers learn the hard way: helping people is not the same skill as running a business. Therapy skills do not automatically come with operations, systems, staffing, quality assurance, and the tough decisions that leadership demands. I also connect that idea to home life, because without routines and processes, everything piles up fast and the stress starts to feel personal.

Then we go personal. I share what it’s like being married to a firefighter on a “consistently inconsistent” waterfall schedule, how reintegration into parenting together can trigger communication breakdowns, and why resentment can show up even when you love your partner and respect their work. We ground it with CBT language around thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and I offer practical repair: boundaries, timing, small rituals, weekly check-ins, and paying attention to what your body is telling you before you hit a breaking point.

If this resonates, listen all the way through, then subscribe, share it with someone who’s carrying a lot, and leave a review so more burned-out helpers can find this conversation. What’s one thing you wish you could say out loud right now?

  • 2. What If Burnout Is Your Body Talking
    2026/07/07

Coffee at night, overtime call-outs, and a brain that won’t shut off, if that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place. We talk through the real-life collision of sirens, schedules, and sanity, with the kind of honesty that only shows up when you stop pretending you’ve got it all together. Whether you’re a first responder spouse, a therapist, a working parent, or a business owner trying to keep the wheels on, this conversation is a reminder that the messy weeks are not a personal failure.

We use simple weekly prompts to slow down and reflect: What was your Mayday? What was your biggest challenge? What went wrong? What made you question your life choices? From broken trust in business to second-guessing a group practice and the weight of chronic stress, we name what so many people carry in private. We also talk about dissociation and that frozen, “not present” feeling, and why a steady support person can be the difference between spiraling alone and coming back to yourself with care.

We close with practical, relatable truths about burnout signs, somatic stress like back pain, and the hidden load of financial management, staffing challenges, payroll panic, imposter syndrome, boundaries, and insurance headaches. Most of all, we focus on finding peace on purpose and watching for resentment and guilt before they take over. If this resonates, subscribe, share the show with someone who needs it, and leave a quick review, what was your Mayday this week?
