What should I check before increasing my thyroid medication?
Ask your doctor to check free T4, free T3, ferritin, and thyroid antibodies before raising the dose, since any of these can explain persistent symptoms without needing more hormone. Many patients get dose increases for years without any of these markers ever being tested.

Can low ferritin cause thyroid symptoms even with normal hemoglobin?
Yes, ferritin and hemoglobin are different markers, and low ferritin alone can cause fatigue, hair loss, brain fog, and heart palpitations that mimic hypothyroidism. Standard bloodwork often misses this because ferritin is rarely ordered alongside a basic thyroid panel.
