  • Episode 4: Truth over Experience
    2025/10/21

Can you imagine what the leper of the end of Mark 1 must have felt when Jesus cleansed him of this horrible, deadly disease? I get pretty excited about getting over a cold, but this former leper's whole life had changed. What unmatchable joy! Yet, Jesus gave some unusual instruction, at least seemingly unusual to us, to tell no one of the experience. I don't know that I could contain such an experience, and the former leper struggled with that also. He told everyone! Can you blame him? Jesus' instructions does perhaps at first glance seem contrary to His purpose, but it is always right to obey God. What we can learn from this passage is that God's truth is always more important than experience.

Today's episode comes from Mark chapters 1 and 2.

  • Episode 3: Mark 1
    2025/10/21

This episode kicks off a new series that will connect with a challenge for the Calvary Baptist Church family and all of our friends who might like to join with us. We are challenged to read and study the Bible together following a specific plan. To finish the year, we are challenging ourselves to read the entire New Testament in 11 weeks. The plan follows a five-day-a-week schedule, as explained in this episode. Each episode in this series will be from the reading of that particular day, or a day close to it. Today's introduction highlights Jesus' preaching in Mark 1. The disciples were astonished at the doctrine of Jesus, as He taught with authority, unlike the scribes. There is much teaching about the Bible today, but it lacks the authority from God's Word. We need to be under the true and powerful teachings of Jesus directly from His Word. I hope I can help you with that.
    This week's Bible Reading Schedule:

    Day 1: Mark 1-2; Acts 1-3
    Day 2: Mark 3-4; Acts 4-6
    Day 3: Mark 5-6; Acts 7-9
    Day 4: Mark 7-8; Acts 10-12
    Day 5: Mark 9-10; Acts 13-15

  • Episode 2: To Them Gave He Power
    2025/04/25

As many as received him, to them gave he power! For those who believe on Jesus, trusting Him for salvation, God has given that person the power to be the son or daughter of God! What a great privilege to be accepted so lovingly into God’s family, and then to be given the opportunity to be a witness of the Light that is Jesus to a world in darkness. John the Baptist was sent from God to be a witness of the coming Jesus, and Christians today are sent out by God to be a witness of the return of Jesus and the current work of Jesus. Let’s be about our Father’s business.

    John 1:6-13

    6. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

    7. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

    8. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

    9. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

    10. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

    11. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

    12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

    13. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

  • Episode 1: In the Beginning Was the Word
    2025/04/01

Jesus is the glorious Word that was in the beginning. Colossians 1:17 says of Jesus that “he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” What a proclamation of the divinity of Jesus Christ! As we begin a new study out of the book of John, let’s not just try to gain facts about Jesus or the Bible, but let’s know Jesus more. Our goal as Christians should be that we are conformed into the image of our Savior, so that we will represent Him well to the world around us.

    John 1:1-5
    1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    2. The same was in the beginning with God.
    3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
    4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
    5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
