Bali’s tourism economy is supported by more than international arrivals.
In this episode of The Global Investor Podcast, we explore Bali’s second demand engine: Indonesia’s enormous and increasingly premium domestic travel market.
Indonesia recorded approximately 1.20 billion domestic tourism trips in 2025, while Bali recorded around 26.62 million. The government is now actively encouraging higher-spending domestic travel—potentially creating another premium demand pool alongside international visitors.
We examine:
• why domestic travellers can support demand around Indonesian holidays, weddings, events and corporate retreats;
• the growing relevance of premium Indonesian travellers to resorts, larger villas, private-pool accommodation and wellness experiences;
• the potential implications for Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Sanur and Ubud; and
• why strong market demand does not automatically make every Bali property a good investment.
We also consider how domestic demand combines with a diversifying international visitor base, remote professionals, lifestyle migrants, retirees and longer-stay residents to create a broader accommodation market.
The opportunity is not simply to buy a premium property in Bali. It is to understand which customers will choose that property—and why they will select it over the available competition.
