  • Flowing in the Coltrane Current
    2026/05/25

On this episode of Another Sound, we explore how the music and spirit of John Coltrane continue to move through contemporary jazz, not as a monument to the past, but as a living current. Joined by saxophonists Isaiah Collier and Lakecia Benjamin, the conversation traces the ways Coltrane’s legacy still shapes improvisation, composition, spirituality, and artistic risk today.

Rather than focusing on tribute or imitation, Collier and Benjamin reflect on what it means to inherit a restless musical language, one built on curiosity, discipline, openness, and transformation. Together, they discuss how Coltrane’s influence extends beyond technique or repertoire and into the deeper question of how artists pursue honesty and freedom through their sound. The Coltrane current is still flowing.
