Auburn’s Hugh Freeze sounded on Tuesday like a guy who understands the assignment, which is a shift from some of his comments earlier this year. He knows he needs to win with a roster that is better than Auburn has had in a long time.

Wednesday, Oklahoma’s Brent Venables and Florida’s Billy Napier take the stage. Venables is probably under the most pressure. Napier lived through it last season, but he still has to show more improvement.

Gundy explains why he thinks college football needs a collective bargaining agreement. He also makes some recommendations for a commissioner of the sport.

He also offers a shocking — or maybe not-so-shocking — reason for Oklahoma State’s fall from 10 wins in 2023 to three wins in 2024. The Cowboys didn’t spend any money on transfer players before last season. Gundy said that has changed this season and Oklahoma State is operating more like the other teams in the Big 12.

Cody Campbell, the former Texas Tech offensive linemen who made his fortune in oil and gas — and who probably inspired two characters in the hit show Landman — joins to discuss his efforts to help his alma mater become a national title contender and his effort to reform college sports.

These two things seem to be at odds with one another, and Cody explains that they are. He’d like to create a system that shuts down any potential super league and keeps all the current FBS schools supported, and he has an idea he thinks would make all of them more money. But in the meantime, he’s using the rules — or lack thereof — in the current system to help the Red Raiders fund a massive roster upgrade.

Also, the boys didn’t get Deion Sanders on the show, but Ari talked to Colorado freshman QB Julian Lewis. Sanders brought Lewis, a highly touted freshman, and senior Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter to media days. It’s an unusual move, but Ari explains why it fits the vibe of the program.
