Al Hassan shares her background as the daughter of Syrian and Lebanese immigrants, her experiences navigating journalism and Hollywood (including as co-executive producer on Hulu’s Ramy), and her goal of creating models for future generations. She explains how the six-part series (1750s–1950s) highlights Muslims at key moments in U.S. history, including Thomas Jefferson’s Quran, enslaved and immigrant Muslims, early mosques, and Black Muslim migration. They discuss post-9/11 media stereotypes, social media’s impact on public opinion, tokenism, and advice for young creators to build independently and find audiences.
