  • 270. Surrender, Stress, and the Science of Peace

    We often think of stress as a schedule problem or a time management issue.

    But many times, stress lives deeper than that.

    It lives in the mental loops of worry. In trying to control outcomes. In carrying responsibility that was never ours to hold.

    In this episode, I explore the connection between control, worry, surrender, and the nervous system — and why surrender is not just a spiritual act, but a physiological one.

    When we mentally rehearse “what if” scenarios, our bodies respond as if the threat is happening right now. That keeps stress hormones elevated, digestion suppressed, and the nervous system on alert. But surrender sends a different signal: safety.

    We talk about:

    • Why worry is a form of mental stress activation
    • How control keeps the nervous system in vigilance
    • The difference between responsibility and over-responsibility
    • Why surrender reduces the body’s threat load
