A preview of what to expect from this five-part podcast series on the lived experience of everyday migrants during the Great Irish Famine of the 1840s and ‘50s.
Across the Briny Ocean covers the arc of an average emigrant’s journey, from funding and buying a ticket (Episode 1) to getting to the port of embarkation (Episode 2) to surviving life at sea (Episode 3) and emigrant mortality (Episode 4) to arriving in the New World (Episode 5). Each episode also concludes by considering the ways in which historical perspectives on the Irish experience sheds light on the plight of twenty-first-century migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers around the world.
