Julie and Sylas wrap up Volume One with their first interview!

In Episode #5, they chit-chat with Allison Otto about the similarities between documentary and narrative filmmaking, color palettes, buttery lenses, and being on a creative journey.

Otto is an award-nominated feature documentary director who has been compared with Errol Morris and Wes Anderson. Her first film, “The Thief Collector,” premiered at South by Southwest in 2022. Watch the movie, out now!

They talk about finding  inspiration while writing: researching classics from both the Sci-Fi and Coming of Age genres. They ended up pulling references from "The Last Starfighter" and "The Breakfast Club" and honing in on old-school sci-fi flicks like "The Blob" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" for their nostalgic charm and use of practical special effects.
