- A retired caulker, Stanley Thompson, set eight trotlines and found seven with fish and the eighth holding a navy-blue woman's pump.
- The shoe was a left-foot pump, size six, two-inch heel, brass buckle, with braided copper wire coiled inside in a figure-eight knot.
- The shoe’s outer leather was damp but the inner lining was noted to be dry by the duty officer and Amanda Callahan the same morning.
- Lori Donnelly’s body was recovered September 10, 1943, and the medical examiner recorded strangulation by braided copper wire; her right shoe was soaked through.
- The case file was classified by the United States Navy within a week and remained sealed in a federal archive until a confession in May 1974.
