من طفولةٍ عاشها في بيروت خلال الحرب الأهلية شكّلت وعيه المبكر، إلى تجربة المنفى التي عمّقت فهمه للقلق والاغتراب، وصولاً إلى مسيرته الأكاديمية في Dartmouth College حيث أعاد مساءلة معنى الحداثة العربية، تتكوّن رحلة مختلفة في التفكير والكتابة.
