In this message from Mark 6:14-28, Frank examines the account of John the Baptist, Herod, and Herodias and challenges us to consider what happens when our “self” is exposed. Rather than responding with pride, defensiveness, or resistance, we are called to repent, humble ourselves, and allow the Lord to transform us into the likeness of Christ.Frank describes the tendency to build and defend a “city of self” whenever we feel corrected, exposed, or challenged. But the way of Jesus is different. Instead of protecting our reputation and defending ourselves, we are invited to side with the Lord against our own self-centered nature and allow His kingdom to be built within us.Through the example of John the Baptist and the humility of Christ, this message calls us to embrace a “deescalating humility that gives life” rather than an escalating pride that can destroy relationships and harden our hearts.The message ultimately asks each of us a searching question: When self is exposed, will we rise up and defend ourselves, or will we repent and allow God to have His way in us?
