We talk about the main difference between the practices of silence and fasting. Silence to seeks to quiet ourselves—inside and out—so that we can hear God. But with fasting, we want to listen for when our inner voices are making things seem more important than they really are.

Dear God, we thank you that you have filled our lives with so many good things. Sometimes, we can begin to think that these things are the keys to a good life, when it’s really you and your love. Help us to give everything the right amount of space in our lives, including giving you the very center. Amen.
