It's easy to say 'rely on data'. It's harder to recognise when we're doing it wrong. Despite having charts, reports and presentations full of numbers, the decision often has little to do with what the data really shows.

I talk about the mistakes I make myself. I discuss looking for data to support a preconceived idea, waiting for the 'full picture' that never arrives, and confusing one high-profile story with a trend. I also talk about the habits that help me avoid making these mistakes.
Because data is not the answer. It's a tool that helps you ask better questions.
