The Temptation of Jesus in the Wilderness — Luke 4:1–13
In Luke 4:1–13, Jesus enters the wilderness full of the Holy Ghost and faces direct temptation from Satan. Through the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, Satan attempts to persuade Jesus to act contrary to the will of God. Each time, Jesus responds with the authority of Scripture: “It is written.”
This message examines what Christ’s temptation teaches us about the spiritual battles believers face today. Temptation itself is not sin, but we must be prepared to recognize Satan’s deception and refuse to yield to it. Satan may even misuse Scripture or make sin appear attractive, which is why Christians need to know the Word of God and remain yielded to the Holy Spirit.
The message also emphasizes the urgency of the Gospel. Life is uncertain, and believers should take the opportunities God gives them to share Christ with others. Whether through a conversation, an invitation to church, or a Gospel tract, even a simple encounter can become an opportunity to point someone to Jesus.
When temptation comes, our defense remains the same: draw near to God, resist the devil, and stand upon the authority of His Word.
