In 1984, Japan was gripped by one of its strangest true crime sagas: a shadowy group calling themselves the "Monster with 21 Faces" kidnapped a candy company president from his bathtub, demanded millions in ransom, then escalated to taunting letters, arson, acid bombs, and actual cyanide-laced sweets placed on store shelves.

They terrorized massive brands like Ezaki Glico (makers of Pocky) and Morinaga, forcing nationwide recalls and widespread panic over everyday treats. For 17 months, they outsmarted Japan's elite police force... and then vanished forever. No arrests. No motive fully explained.
