Hand on your heart: How good are you at listening? REALLY listening?
I always thought I was a decent listener until I trained as a coach. Only then did I understand that I had a lot to learn in that department - and still do. Listening is a disappearing art - especially in a time where we seem to love to shout at each other online.
Truly listening is a beautiful gift you can give to the person who's sharing something with you. Think about it: When is the last time you felt that somebody truly listened to you? When did you make space for somebody else to share what's on their mind?
It's trickier than it seems. Especially, when what they're sharing might feel uncomfortable to us. It's easier to jump in and try and fix things than letting somebody else share what's on their mind and hear it without immediately interrupting them with a fix. But that's exactly where the magic happens. When you give somebody space to open up authentically and feel safe to be vulnerable with you. Becoming a better listener will enrich your relationships so, so much. And it will make you feel more secure in those situations where somebody is sharing stuff that's uncomfy.
Listen in to learn 3 easy things you can do to become a better listener in this episode. I'm spilling my secrets from training as a coach, so it's a good one!
