  • Election Fever! Our Favorite, Least Favorite, and Craziest Elections
    2025/11/06
Join Jim and Greg for a special Thursday 3 Martini Lunch! With the 2025 elections just completed, they reflect back on the best, worst, and craziest elections in their memories.

First, they start with their favorite elections. Jim looks back at one from earlier this century that not only brought satisfying results but was also a big boost to his career. Meanwhile, Greg feels old but excited in highlighting one from decades ago that was not only a fantastic night in the presidential race but that was also really good down ballot.

Next, they look back on the toughest elections and one in particular stands out as Republicans seemed poised for a win but ended up well short. But the lingering effects of that election cycle has reverberated in every election cycle since.

Finally, they think about the craziest elections they remember. Is it possible to have an election crazier than one major party nominee getting shot and the other being forced to drop out by his own party? Well, actually, yes there is.

  • Dems Score Big Blue State Wins
    2025/11/05
Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on Wednesday’s 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they break down Democrats’ bigger-than-expected wins in Virginia and New Jersey, Zohran Mamdani coasting to victory in New York City, and several ballot initiatives that mostly went the wrong way.

First, they dig into Virginia, where Democrat Abigail defeated Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears by nearly 15 points, outperforming every major poll. That landslide also helped rage texter Jay Jones win the attorney general’s race by six points, while Democrats picked up 13 seats in the state legislature. In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill beat Jack Ciattarelli by 13 points. The wins were not shocking, but the margins were, and Scot and Greg break down what those results mean heading into 2026.

Next, they come to grips with Zohran Mamdani winning the New York City mayor's race by taking comfort that Andrew Cuomo won't be mayor. They also highlight some very ominous indications of what's to come from Mamdani's victory speech. Dems will undoubtedly try to mimic his smiley socialism in some parts of the country next year. Are Republicans ready to fight it?

Finally, they analyze key ballot measures across the country, including strong conservative victories in Texas protecting parental rights and requiring proof of citizenship to vote. But not all results went the right way, as Gavin Newsom’s gerrymander gimmick passed easily in California, and Colorado voters approved a tax hike on the wealthy to fund free school meals.

  • How Should Dick Cheney Be Remembered?
    2025/11/04
Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday edition of the 3 Martini Lunch as they reflect on the legacy of the late former Vice President Dick Cheney, slam former Attorney General Eric Holder for trying to undermine the Supreme Court, and highlight more deranged behavior from the left, this time targeting Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy.

First, they examine the long and influential career of Dick Cheney, from his early days in the Ford administration to serving as Defense Secretary during the Gulf War and later as one of the most consequential vice presidents in U.S. history. There will be considerable debate on the right over his legacy in the Iraq War and his endorsement of Kamala Harris in 2024. Jim also tells us about a special dinner he had with the Cheneys shortly after the 2004 election.

Next, they slam former Attorney General Eric Holder for his latest comments clearly aimed at delegitimizing the U.S. Supreme Court, all because he's frustrated by the right-leaning decisions coming from the court. Holder is also among the people urging Democrats to gerrymander their congressional even more heading into the 2026 midterms

Finally, they recoil at the vile voicemail left for Sen. Sheehy by a woman who is running for local office in Montana. In the message, she hopes Sheehy contracts pancreatic cancer and dies quickly because he supported the GOP's One Big Beautiful Bill. Jim says after Charlie Kirk's murder, the Jay Jones scandal, and now this, there are a lot of people becoming detached from reality over politics.

  • Can the GOP Win in New Jersey?
    2025/11/03
Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect a brutal ad to close out the New Jersey governor's race, college students strongly preferring socialism to capitalism, and more drama from South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace as she runs for governor.

First, they dissect Republican Jack Ciattarelli’s brutal closing ad in the New Jersey governor’s race, which spotlights Democrat Mikie Sherrill struggling to name a single legislative priority. Ciattarelli came much closer than expected in 2021. Can he pull off the win tomorrow?

Next, they react to a disturbing new poll showing that 67 percent of college students have a positive or neutral view of socialism, while only 40 percent feel the same about capitalism. Jim offers an explanation as to why so many young lefties blame the system for their frustrations. It must be the system because it can't be a consequence of their own choices, right?

Finally, they groan as Nancy Mace stirs up more controversy by allegedly berating two airport police officers for not meeting her at the curb to escort her to her gate. Mace is great at attracting attention. But as she runs for governor, are South Carolina voters really going to vote for all of her personal drama to be on regular display in the highest office in the state?

  • Is It Time to Nuke the Filibuster?
    2025/10/31
Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they wrap up the week with some nuclear-grade political stories, including Trump’s push to restart nuclear testing, his call for Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, and a sharp debate over conservative criticism of Tucker Carlson.

First, they dig into President Trump’s call to resume U.S. nuclear testing, which hasn’t occurred since 1992 and is banned under international agreements. But Jim says there is reason to believe other nations are already doing it and threatening to do it ourselves might get them to change course.

Next, they react to Trump's call for an end to the Senate filibuster in order to reopen the government and move his agenda forward. Even if the GOP had the votes to do this, would it be a wise move or simply set the stage for a lot of horrible things to become law whenever Democrats control Congress and the White House again?

Finally, Jim sounds off on Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts publicly demanding an end to criticism from the right for Tucker Carlson's friendly platforming of odious figures like Nick Fuentes others. Roberts says the criticism amounts to "the slander of bad actors who serve someone else's agenda."

  • Kristol Clear Insanity
    2025/10/30
Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they assess the GOP's improving poll numbers during the shutdown, distinctly different poll numbers in Virginia, and Bill Kristol disgracing himself to the point of endorsing Zohran Mamdani.

First, they're pleasantly surprised to see poll numbers showing Americans think better of Republicans and the GOP in Congress right now than they did before the shutdown. Independents are more bullish on Republicans too. With a simple message and many more ways for voters to get their news, the old strategies aren't working for Democrats anymore.

Next, they dig into poll numbers showing a 10-point lead for Democrat Abigail Spanberger over Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears in the Virginia governor's race. Meanwhile, GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares leads by eight points. Are there really that many ticket splitters in Virginia? They also wonder why Sears has not spoken much about what she and Gov. Glenn Youngkin accomplished over the past four years, when Youngkin remains a popular governor.

Finally, they shake their heads as former Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol completes his transformation from supposed conservative to leftist lapdog as he endorses Mamdani for mayor. Jim and Greg explain how some conservatives who dislike Trump kept their conservative policy positions while others, like Kristol, abandoned everything they ever claimed to believe in hopes of being embraced by the left.

  • China's Chilling Combination of AI & Genetic Engineering
    2025/10/29
Join Jim and Greg for the Wednesday 3 Martini Lunch as they dig into the Democrats’ hilariously bad messaging on the government shutdown, China’s chilling fusion of AI and genetic engineering, and Jon Stewart’s absurd comparison of Zohran Mamdani to Jackie Robinson.

First, they marvel at how Democrats proudly admit to causing real pain for Americans in an attempt to gain political leverage in the shutdown fight. It's a cold, heartless message but Democrats are more than welcome to keep using it.

Next, Jim shares insights from Bill Drexel of the Hudson Institute, who joined Jim on the recent trip to India. Drexel reports that China is combining artificial intelligence with genetic engineering in pursuit of future generations with no flaws and who will be superior soldiers. Jim also explains how the ethical nightmare surrounding this plan won't even matter to Xi Xinping and the Chinese Communist Party.

Finally, they roll their eyes as Jon Stewart of The Daily Show fawns over Democrat New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani and compares him to legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson. Jim and Greg document how the Democrats have shifted from running away from Mamdani to a full embrace once they sensed he could win.

  • Dems Feeling Heat from Unions to End Shutdown
    2025/10/28
Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss left-leaning unions now demanding Democrats support the GOP bill to fund the government, Republicans essentially surrendering the fight against Gavin Newsom's California gerrymandering referendum, and Graham Platner's campaign manager jumping ship after just three days on the job.

First, they highlight the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) union publicly demanding an end to the government shutdown and urging Democrats to back the clean extension of government funding pushed by Republicans. Four different pilots' unions are making the same demand. Will this convince four more Senate Dems to switch sides?

Next, they wince as the groups spending the most money to defeat California Gov. Gavin Newsom's ballot initiative to gerrymander the state's congressional map are now spending very little and essentially surrendering the fight.

Finally, they get a kick out of Maine Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner's campaign manager stepping down after three days on the job. Kevin Brown says it's because he and his wife just found out they are expecting a baby and Platner deserves a campaign manager with undivided attention. But that timing seems awfully convenient given Platner's Nazi tattoo scandal.
