HABIT 4: Think Win/Win
  • Seek mutually beneficial outcomes in all interactions. 
  • If a mutually beneficial solution cannot be reached, it is better to agree on "No Deal" rather than resorting to a win-lose scenario. 
  • Language plays an important role; use inclusive and collaborative language that emphasizes cooperation, understanding, and mutually beneficial solutions.

 

HABIT 5: Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood

  • Effective communication and empathetic listening is important to build strong relationships and resolve conflicts.
  • Minimize autobiographical responses and instead focus on empathetic responses to understand a person's unique perspective.
  • Listen with intent to understand, suspend judgment, reflect back and validate and express your own perspective.
