Welcome! Concentrating on one thing is the prelude to meditation and it is a skill that must be practiced over and over. This short video gives you an opportunity to do that practice. This draws in multiple senses to help you stay engaged in your practice. There is continuous bird song (audio) and there is the visual of leaves blowing in the wind I recorded from my local area. Every minute, there is a gentle ping. These serve a couple purposes. They count down the time you have left if you feel like you are struggling and want to continue but need the little reassurance that you can (time blindness). AND it gives you the gentle reminder every minute to notice that you are thinking (it is natural, we ALL do it) and to bring your attention back to your practice (this is LITERALLY what you are practicing!!). Catching your thoughts, or rather that you are thinking thoughts, and bringing your attention back to the video, to your breath, to the sound, that is what you are practicing. That is the work of getting better at meditation. We need to be patient, gentle with ourselves. This takes SO MUCH effort for our brains. This is not our natural state. BUT, if we can commit and recommit to this practice over and over, it can get better. It can start to help. When you are able to handle this video more easily, you are ready to move to my next one that adds ten minutes of practice.
